Richards of the Texas Transportation Institute will join the research section of the Bureau of Economics and Statistics, Inter state Commerce Commission, at Washington, D.C., in September. An assistant research economist for TTI since September 1959, Richards has been project econ omist on the wool transportation study conducted for the U.S. De partment of Agriculture. He will join ICC as an engineer- economist to work with a group that is re-evaluating transporta tion cost-formulas used by common carriers in rate litigations. As project economist on the USD A wool transportation study conducted by TTI, Richards inter viewed managers of all wool proc essing plants throughout the west and executives of selected wool scouring plants on the east coast. The study examined the feasi bility of locating wool scouring (cleaning) plants nearer the areas of production in the west, and the cost differential in shipping weights. ★ ★ ★ Dr. Tyrus R. Timm and James E. Kirby will participate in the National Agricultural Policy Con ference at Gull Lake, Michigan, Sept. 11-14. Timm, head of the Department of Agricultural Economics and So ciology, is a member of the Na tional Agricultural Policy Commit tee, representing the southern part of the United States. During the conference, Timm will report on a recent tour of Europe, where he headed a group of economists studying the effects of the European Common Market on U.S. agriculture. The A&M professor will also give a paper on “Agricultural Pol icy Around the World.” Kirby, an economist in market ing policy with the Texas Agri cultural Extension -Service, will serve as the Texas delegate to the conference. ★ ★ ★ Carl G. Anderson, Vocational Agriculture Farm Management Specialist, is in Washington, D.C., this week to attend a national farm management conference.
