MEN’S SHOP “HOME OF DISTINCTIVE MEN’S WEAR” North Gate ..List To Be Trimmed For Run-Off Moore, Dewey Reelection Bids Spark Local Scene Bids for reelection by Senator W. T. (Bill) Moore and Repre sentative B. H. Dewey Jr. have highlighted campaigning in Bra zos County for the upcoming Sat urday primaries. Moore and Dewey, both Demo crats, are being challenged by Marion C. Pugh, a College Station businessman, and advertising ex ecutive David G. Haines, respec tively. The Democratic party has the local primary practically all to it self. Rupublican County Chair man Herbert Shaffer, running un opposed for reelection, is the only man entered in a local race by the GOP. In the Senate race, Moore is seeking reappointment to the posi tion he has held for the past 14 years. Pugh, a former star foot ball player, is venturing into poli tics for the first time. The incumbent, a practicing loc al attorney, is a former member of the House of Representatives, a position he received just prior to graduation from the Univei'sity of Texas Law School. Pugh is a director of the Gen eral Security Life Insurance Com pany and a member of the Board .of Directors of the Texas Retail Lum bermen’s Association. In bdth races coeducation at A&M has been a primary question, with all four candidates official ly stating that they favor admit ting women to the college. Pugh has been the only to quali fy his beliefs, saying that he per sonally favors the change but would not pressure the college’s Board of Directors into a decision. Both Moore and Dewey are put ting considerable campaign em phasis on their past interests and accomplishments, while their chal lengers have been advocating a change in Brazos County’s repre sentation. The only other contested race on the local scene is for district clerk, where four have filed for the position left vacant by F. J. Cole. On Saturday’s ballot will be Mrs. Cecyle Howard, the only wo man listed on a primary ballot; W. D. Burley, chief deputy to the tax assessor-collector; S. C. Lo- Bello, manager of a Bryan furni ture store; and Johnny Johnson, justice of the peace in precinct four. IGE SHELTON INC COLLEGE AYE. AT 33rd.
