Jerry Voin
Editor,
The Battalion:
Having held the position of
student life committee chairman
this year, I know from experi
ence that the student life commit
tee cannot function unless its
members are willing and able to
devote much time and energy
toward furthering the interests
of the student body.
Few people know much about
the student life committee be
cause its name seldom appears
in the limelight, but this com
mittee is dh'ectly responsible for
a number of Student Senate func
tions, such as the Aggie Muster,
Mother of the Year award and
the Kyle Field seating arrange
ment, to name only a few It also
influences numerous other Sen
ate activities and decisions.
It is a big job and a big re
sponsibility and it is my opinion
that you, as next year’s student
body, should exercise great care
this Thursday at the polls when
choosing the man you want to
head the student life committee
in 1962-63.
I am pledging my support for
the chairmanship of next year’s
student life committee to Jerry
Vion.

To West Point
Melvin O. Liss, ’65 from Blanket,
has been appointed to the United
States Military Academy at West
Point by Congressman O. C. Fish
er of the 21st Congressional Dis
trict.
Liss, an opportunity award
scholar majoring in meteorology,
is presently assigned to Co. D-3.
He is the son of Rev. and Mrs.
Walter E. Liss of Leesville, La.
His father is a former Army chap
lain.
I have watched Jerry’s career at
A&M with a great deal of in
terest, having been closely associ
ated with him for three years in
the Corps of Cadets. He has al
ways demonstrated a high degree
of organizational ability, depend
ability and a sense of tireless de
dication to complete whatever he
undertakes. His efforts in the cap
acity of scholastic sergeant have
been instrumental in making his
unit one of the top outfits in the
Corps this year.
Choosing the chairman of the
student life committee will be
one of your most important du
ties as voters on election day.
Jerry Vion has my support, and
by giving him your vote I hope
that you will give him the oppor
tunity to prove himself worthy
of your support also.

Adoption of a trimester plan
to provide full use of the facili
ties the year around and speed
up the graduation of veterinarians,
was adopted for the School of Ve
terinary Medicine at A&M.
Under the plan, ^students of Ve
terinary medicine will attend
school for three 15-week periods
each year, with a four week sum
mer vacation, instead of the pre
sent 9-months, two semester terms.
Graduation would require 2 years
and 11 months, as compared with
the present 3 years and 8V Z
months from the.time of entering
the veterinary program. The
change-over will be made over a
five-year period, phasing out the
current classes by requiring at
tendance at summer sessions.
The first classes to go on the full
trimester schedule will enroll in
1964. By making full use of pre
sent facilities and gradually in
creasing the teaching staff, it is
hoped that the School of Veteri
nary Medicine will be able to dou
ble its enrollment capacity with
in the next 10 years.

SHOW COMPENSATION PLAN
Beverley Braley Tours and Travel wishes to inform all of our clients that the
C.A.B. approved NO SHOW PLAN becomes effective May 1. The plan is that Airline
customers will be assessed 50% of the value of the applicable one way fare of the first
flight segment which was neither USED nor CANCELLED. A minimum charge of
$5.00 and a minimum charge of $40.00 per passenger will be made.
It is our hope that none of our clients will be required by an airline to pay any
sum from $5.00 to $40.00 for not using a flight on which he has reservations and is
ticketed.
When you book flights through our agency and cannot make them, let us cancel
the first segment of your trip and no charge will be assessed by the airline.

pen Letter To The Public
We, the Friends of Marion Pugh, who heard his speech at the Brazos County
A&M Club, Wednesday night, April 18, feel it should be published in its entirety,
rather than piece meal because of its’importance to the people of the 11th. Sen
atorial District.
FELLOW AGGIES, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
I am one of your ordinary fellow citizens. I make
no claim to exceptional intelligence, unusual abilities
or great accomplishments.
My primary interest and principal reason for en
tering this contest is to give you clean honest and fair
representation in our state government and to the best
of my ability, contribute to its’ efficient and economical
operation for the best interest of all the people of the
District.
I have not and will not make any promises or com
mitments to anyone except those made openly during
the campaign.
Mine will not be representation by threat, intimi
dation, for fee or the highest bid, nor to further my
own selfish or personal business interest. I look upon
honesty and integrity as man’s greatest virtures and
absolutely essential in public officials. Unless we elect
officials who are sincere, honest and dependable, we
promote corruption in our society and contribute to
the destruction of our American way of life. This
internal threat is greater than any foreign one. These
are matters on which I feel most strongly.
I am one from a modest background who has
profited immensely from a higher education of Texas
A&M. I fully recognize and appreciate the values of
education and the importance of this particular insti
tution to you, our community and to our entire State.
I know that Texas A&M needs better facilities; that
it’s faculty and staff deserve more pay, recognition
and appreciation, and very important that its’ needs
must be presented by representatives and friends of
recognized respectability and trustworthy motives if
the necessary support from the people of the State as
a whole is to be secured.
Several times I have stated publicly that I am
personally for Co-education at A&M College, however,
I shall not pose as an educational expert nor attempt
to dictate what Texas A&M shall have and be. Such
action is disruptive and detrimental, but certainly my
interest in and loyalty to the school is unquestionable.
You can count on my constant concern for its’ needs
and continuing efforts to fulfill them.
These pledges I make to you. Be sure to vote on
May 5th. I hope I merit your confidence, your support
and your vote. Thank you!
