(/P)—Ar nold Palmer, who has won more tournaments and more money than anybody elso this year, is favored to take his third straight Texas Open starting Thursday. If he succeeds it’ll be a record for the 38-year-old golf event. Palmer heads a field of 130 pro fessionals and 20 amateurs. There never was a stronger field after money in the $30,000 event. Winners of 16 of the 21 tourna ments played thus far this year will be on hand. The only missing ones will be Bo Wininger, Tommy Jacobs, Henry Williams and Billy Casper. Ener recently set the A&M school record in the 3000*meter steeplechase at the Texas Relays with a time of 9:14.2. He also runs the mile and two-mile for the Aggies. Ener set the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Texas Relays with a clocking of 9:14.2. Danny Roberts, the sophomore muscleman, set the shot put mark in a meet with Texas and Rice with a toss of 57-1 Vk. His put is Vs inch over Darrow Hooper’s Olympic Trials mark. Freshman sensation Ted Nelson has already set two school marks —the 100-yard dash with a time of 9.4 at the Odessa Invitational and the 440-yard dash last week in a meet with Rice and SMU. His open 440 was run in 46.8, .7 under the old mark. The final school record broken was the pole vault by another freshman, Lewis Poland. Poland leaped 14-0^4 at the Texas Relays and broke the A&M mark by a quarter of an inch.
