It was “Carroll Broussard Ap
preciation Night” at Aggieland
yesterday, but in the basketball
game against the Baylor Bears,
it was another senior, Ron Durbon,
who stole the show. The final
score—Aggies 84; Bears 61.
The Ags ended the season with
a 15-9 season mark and a 9-5 in
SWC play.
Durbon, a 6-3 forward from Sah
Antonio, played the greatest game
of his career as he dropped in 31
points and grabbed 14 rebounds
to lead the Aggies in both depart
ments.
The 31 tallied by Durbon also
was the top scoring effort by an
Aggie during the 1961-62 season.
Broussard, the fabulous all-
around performer, hit 19 points
in this his final game at A&M ^ind
took 11 rebounds off the boards.
He ended his career with 1,383

record by 399 points.
The Aggies, rebounding from a
disheartening loss to Texas Tech
last week, played one of their fin
est games this season—as a team.
A&M out-shot the Bears, 44.3
per cent to 31 per cent and
grabbed more rebounds, 57-41.
Hitting from the deep corner,
Durbon made good on 14 out of
20 field goal attempts for a 70
per cent average. Broussard hit
on eight out of 18 tries for 44
per cent.
The Aggies started quick as
Durbon dropped in a jumper after
only four seconds were gone and
Baylor never was in the ball game.
At the half, the Aggies led the
Bears, 47-29 and Durbon and
Broussard had 22 and 11 points,

Fish Top Cubs
By 3 In Finale
Fish center Tim Timmerman
looped 25 points through the bas
ket last night as Coach Shelby
Metcalf’s freshman cagers out
lasted the Baylor Cubs, 65-62, in
a desperate see-saw battle.
By winning last night’s game,
the Fish ended a 12-game season
with a 6-6 record. They had a 5-3
record in SWC play.
The surprising Cubs made things
look glum for the Fish through
most of the game. Earlier in the
season, the Aggie freshmen had
handled them easily, 65-44, in
Waco.
It was 35-30 in favor of Baylor
at the half, and after a brief spurt
that nearly put them ahead at the
beginning of the second period,
the Fish fell behind again. With
3:48 left in the game, however,
David Glover sank a layup that
put the Fish out in front, 61-60.
Formidable Winston Moore of
the Cubs fouled out a few seconds
later and Timmerman and Paul
Timmins commenced to build the 1
slim lead that prevailed at the end.
David Stiles had done yeoman
service at guarding Moore and
held him to 13 points.

The three Aggie seniors—Dur
bon, Broussard and Tommy Smith
—compiled 54 points between
them, only seven short of the en
tire Baylor team.
Top man for Baylor was Hei’-
bert Barritt, who made 22 points
and gTabbed nine rebounds. Bar
ritt was followed in the scoring
column by Don Brownlee’s 13.
Before the contest, Broussard
was awarded a plaque from the
school in appreciation of his tre
mendous sportsmanship, leadership
and outstanding play on the court.
Broussard’s family were intro
duced and Carroll then thanked
the school by saying, “This is the
greatest thrill of my life.”
Coach Bob Rogers would prob
ably rather lose his big toe than
Broussard, but Carroll will be go
ing to higher goals after grad
uation this spring. After Dur-
bon’s performance, Rogers prob
ably feels the same about his loss.
Ags Open Season With Wi«
Over Texas Lutheran, 4-3
Behind the line-drive hitting of
Ray Hall and Roger Crouch plus
the fine relief pitching of Richard
Beller, the Aggie baseballers edged
the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs, 4-3,
yesterday on Kyle Field. It was
the first game for each team.
Beller, a 6-0 sophomore lefty
from Victoria, relieved Chuck Mc
Guire in the sixth inning and al
lowed no runs and only one hit in
the remaining four stanzas.
The two big Aggie sluggei\s, out
fielders Hall and Crouch, each
gTabbed a pair of hits. Hall had
a double, a single and an RBI
while Crouch contributed two sin
gles and two RBI’s.
In the five innings that Mc
Guire pitched, he gave up three
runs on five hits.
A&M jumped off to a quick
lead in the first inning on a walk
to George Hargett and a single by
Crouch. TLC went ahead in the
third but the Cadets knotted the
score in the bottom half of that
