A new club is being formed in the Bryan-College Station
area that will be affiliated with the Trans-Atlantic British
Brides and Parents Association. The group, formed about 12
years ago by parents of war brides, has a goal of keeping
English brides together.
The clubs are usually very large in cities which have
armed services posts. El Paso has one of the largest clubs in
Texas.
The association publishes a monthly magazine and spon
sors many projects for their affiliates. One of the main
projects is to charter planes each year at Christmas and dur
ing the summer months making possible trips home at a
reduced rate. Originally the planes departed from New York
to London; but now a flight has been arranged to leave from
Houston. The trips are arranged for round trips and last
from two to ten weeks. Women belonging to the club for one
year are elegible for the plane trips.
Local clubs function as social groups, making possible
friendship among the English women in an area through
suppers, bingo games, and other events. They also sponsor
emergency trips home for members.
The first meeting of the British Brides Club will meet
in the home of Mrs. Billy R. Pool, 1916 Cavitt, at 7:30 to
night. Mrs. Pool can be contacted at TA 3-5231.
