Working with zoo animals is a
“real specialty,” according to
Banks, because the individual has
to learn while doing. A zoo veteri
narian has no real background for
his type of work and must try to
apply his basic veterinary train
ing to problems that arise.
Banks added that a zoo veteri
narian’s main problem is not with
diagnosis and treatment, but with
restraint for treatment. The doc
tor has to learn through experi
ence how to control the animals
for diagnosis and treatment, while
at the same time protecting him
self and the animal.
According to Banks, Luguette
has devised a unique “squeeze-
chute cage” for lions and tigers,
modeled after the type used for
cattle and horses at A&M.

than the winner of the Louisiana
conference, and they will go to
Fort Hood for the finals. High
point individual score was made
by M. B. Hodges with 390 out
of a possible 400.
