The information which was mailed to high school personnel this week pointed out that students may choose any date they wish in taking the CEEB tests, or they can divide the tests among two or more dates in the same or dif ferent years. A high school stu dent should usually plan to have completed the required series of tests not later than the March test date of his senior year in high school, according to the in formation. The adoption of the College Board tests in no way changes the established admission require ments to A&M. These tests en able the college to refine its pro cedures for placement of students in the college’s various schools of study. Three publishing companies have displayed considerable inter est, and have submitted bids for the manuscript. Dr. Dillon stated that he expected to receive bids from possibly three other com panies. He said that there were two reasons behind his decision to write the book. “First, there is no satisfactory one-semester biology text on the ’ESDAYI ET” ward UAS10N per BATTALION CLASSIFIED WANT AD RATES ht itj st per word ]( per word each additional day I er word each additional Minimum chargre—40d Classified Display 10# per column inck each insertion PHONE VI DEADLINE 4 D.m. day before publlcatloa FOR RENT :e, clean furnished efficiency npart- . for student, close to campus, $36.00 monthly. The con tent in our biology books has not appreciably changed in 30 or 40 years.” Not only was the material be hind the times, but he was com pletely dissatisfied with the meth ods used in teaching biology, he added. “Textbooks are slow to incor porate new materials,” he said. “Like everything else, they resist change.” As an example, he stated that upon returning to the academic field after 15 years in museum work, he found that biology texts Engineering Freshmen Meet Tonight For Fourth Orientation Program had only three changes in them since the time he had left. One of the most significant changes in Dr. Dillon’s book con cerns the relationships of organ isms. In all previous books, life was classified under one of two kingdoms—plant or animal. Un der the classification system pre sented in this book, the plant kingdom encompasses all life. “Even man is simply a highly modified plant,” Dr. Dillon stated. r*"*vD “Sports Car Center” Dealers for Renault-Peugeot & British Motor Cars Sales—Parts—Service ;“We Service All Foreign Cars” :i416 Texas Ave. TA 2-4517 ■■■■■■■■■■■■■w A. & R.
