This is without a doubt, one of the best events during the year for the two military, outfits—the Army Groundpounders and the Air Force Fly- boys—to fight it out legally for the basis for superiority. The other day during workouts, the humidity was terr ible and the old thermometer was soaring the 85 degree mark, but both units didn’t seem to let this bother them. Even though they obviously were physically beat—it was their first day in pads—they continued to give all they had. Every once in a while, one of the student coaches would yell, “Come on Soandso, you’re not doing that right. You have to stick your head in there and then tear his head off.” Then would come the demonstration to make the execution clearer to the player in fault. Workouts for Bowl game were scheduled to be an hour long, but during the first day in pads the session ran a bit overtime as the coaches were looking over their talents. After the practice, of course, came a short but tiring session of wind sprints. Both squads have some well-trained tutors and with the cooperation from the participants, the game should be a tremendous success and a truly great dog-fight. The coaches for the game are footballers from Coach Jim Myers’ team. Yesterday the Air Force added two coaches to its staff, Wayne Freiling, guard tutor, and Daryle Keeling, quarterback mentor. The other members of the Flyboys’ staff are Jon Few, Eddie Van Dyke, Bob Phillips and Cqrter Franklin. Playmakers for the Groundpounders are Teddy Ja^k Estes, Bob Caskey, Larry Broaddus, Ralph Smith, Joe Bob Johnson and Paul Piper. ,V The lineups for both squads have not been released yet, but the coaches expect to round them up within the next few days. * a Every year one team will come up a darkhorse that looks like he is capable of making the varsity team, but usually there is one thing lacking—speed, size, or aggressiveness. • This contest should prove to be very interesting and the winner will have the grounds to say, “Well boys, it] looks like our branch is better than yours!” ' y - Ti || SJ -GROCERIES- CATSUP ...3 Bottles 59c Heinz—Tomato SOUP 3 Cans 29c Heinz—Chicken Noodle SOUP 2 Cans 29c 16-Qz.
