Ad Fraternity Initiates A&M
Two years of planning and hard
work have paid off for the 21
members of the Texas A&M Ad
vertising Club. Their main goal
has been the establishment of a
chapter of Alpha Delta Sigma, a
national professional advertising
fraternity, on the A&M campus.
Their goal was realized this
week with the news that the ad
club’s petition for membership had
been approved by the national
chapter and that the formal initi
ation ceremonies would be held in
Houston this Saturday.
The weekend schedule of events
includes a “mixer” on the Uni
versity of Houston campus Thurs
day night, attendance at the an
nual Houston Advertising Forum
as guests of the Houston Adver
tising Club on Friday and the
initiation ceremonies at the Uni
versity of Houston Saturday morn
ing.
, The initiation itself is set to
coincide with the annual joint re
gional meeting of southwestern
chapters of Alpha Delta Sigma
and Gamma Alpha Xi sorority.
The A&M chapter will be known
as the Wesley D. Calvert Chapter
of Alpha Delta Sigma in honor
of the club’s sponsor, W. D. Cal
vert, assistant professor of jour
nalism.
Officers of the Texas A&M Ad
vertising Club to be initiated are
Jim Riley, president; John Schier,
vice-president; Colyar Mcllheran,
secretary; Robert Burnside, treas
urer; Bobby Dodson, publicity
manager; Ronnie Treat, member
ship manager; and Wesley D. Cal
vert, sponsor.
Other members of the club
awaiting initiation include Jim
Denison, William Schroder, Ern
esto Uribe, Marvin Girouard, John
Herrin, Jerry Nelson, Donley
Brothers, James Gibson, Charles
Mauldin, Larry Smith, Ben. Lester,
Tom Nelson, Voris Riley, and Wes
ley Burnett.

THE CHURCH FOR ALL . . .
ALL FOR THE CHURCH
The Church is the greatest factor on
earth for the building of character and
good citizenship. It, is a storehouse of
spiritual values. Without a strong Church,
neither democracy nor civilization can
survive. There are four sound reasons
why every person should attend services
regularly and support the Church. They
are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his
children's sake. (3) For the sake of his
Community and nation. (4) For the sake
of the Church itself, which needs his
moral and material support. Plan to go
to church regularly and read your Bible
daily.

Do you gain any real comfort from that old
cliche about dark clouds having silver linings? Who
can peel a cloud to find its happy lining? ,
But frustration has been a blessing to many
men. It has driven self-centered souls to seek a new
fulcrum for life. It has brought men to God . . .
acknowledging human failure . . . seeking divine
strength.
And as they have found in the Church comfort
and courage they have learned anew the spiritual
meaning of defeat and victory.
The One that this world crucified is King of
kings. Beyond a cross and a crown of thorns our
greatest aspirations await us.
