Lid Comes Off 1960-61 Cage
Season in San Antonio Tonight
The lid will be lifted on the 1960-
61 basketball season tonight in San
Antonio as A&M meets Trinity Un
iversity.
There will be many familiar
faces in the Aggie troop this year,
since only four seniors were lost.
Six lettermen will bid for top
positions on almost the same team
that compiled a 19-5 record last
season. Last years won-loss record
was one of the best ever turned in

finalist. Sam Houston defeated Se
guin 26-7 last week in bi-district
play.
The San Antonio school will be
allowed to play football next year,
but the games will not count to
ward a district title. Other Sam
Houston teams will not be affected
by the ruling.
The suspension is one of the stif-
fest ever handed a schoolboy foot
ball team, Dr. Rhea Williams, head
of the Interscholastic League, said
after the committee’s ruling in
Austin.
The league acted on reports
that a player hit an official during
a melee after the Uvalde-Sam
Houston game. Players and fans
from both schools reportedly took
part.
Uvalde was placed on probation
for the 1961 season, but its team
still will be eligible for a cham
pionship.
Uvalde, Del Rio and Sam Hous
ton finished in a three-way tie for
the 14 AAA championship. Sam
Houston won a coin flip for the
playoff berth.
Seguin will play Port Lavaca
Friday night at Seguin for a semi
final berth in the AAA playoffs.
by an Aggie team.
One Soph Starter
Four of the returning lettermen
are slated for starting duties
against Trinity tonight. Carroll
Broussard, Pat Stanley, Wayne An-
net and Don Stanley will make
up the veteran starters while Jer
ry Windham, a 6-6 soph will fill
in at the post position.
A up-and-coming JC transfer,
Ronnie Durbon, is tabbed a strong
contender for the starting lineup
as well as big Lewis Qualls.
Plenty of Depth
The Cadet’s have a lot of depth
on this year’s squad with lettermen
Tommy Smith and Elliott Craig.
Smith is only a junior in eligibility
and still is a little shy on experi
ence while Craig has earned two
letters as a quick, sure-shot guard.
Intramurals
The average amount of activity
went on yesterday in intramural
sports.
E-l edged Sq. 8, 21-19, in the
only game played in Class B bas
ketball.
In Class A football, D-l blanked
Sq. 8, 6-0; Sq. 7 won over Sq. 5,
6-2; and G-3 smashed M-Band,
21-0.
Mitchell Hall halted Pan Amer
ican, 3-0, in Class C horseshoes.
Other games in this class saw
Legett Hall shut out Milner Hall,
3-0; and Law Hall win over Wal
ton by forfeit.
In Class A horseshoes, L-2 slip
ped by C-l, 2-1; Sq. 17 white-
wished E-l, 3-0; and Sq. 11 beat
Sq. 1, 3-0.
Besides Windham and Qualls,
last year’s Fish team sent up some
top prospects for the varsity in
Charlie Minor, Billy Young, Jim
Keller and Lee Walker. Both
Young and Keller are very fast and
Walker is the second tallest man
the coaches as well as many other
interested people, when Broussard
turned his ankle. However, he re
covered quickly and will be on hand
at full speed tonight,
on the squad, standing 6-7.
Minor Recovering
Minor was the top Fish play-j
maker last season, but was hamp-j
ered with a knee injury in the 1 '
middle of the season. He reinjured
his knee in early season practice
and is now on the road to full re
covery from a knee operation.
Last week another injury upset
