Frosh Backs Fulfilling Quest For Speed
A&M’s quest for long-needed
ireak-away speed is becoming a
•eality with a group of sprinters
n the frosh backfield, but the
•apidly improving Aggie Fish will
neet the sternest test to date in
.he Texas .Yearlings Saturday aft
ernoon on Kyle Field.
Plenty of Speed
Coach Travis “Shorty” Hughes
has plenty of speed and ability
with such backs as Jerry Rogers
of Corpus Christi, Travis Reagan
of Wichita Falls, George Hargett
of Linden, Phil Peter of Houston,
Bobby Evans of Thorndale and
Jim Linnstaedter of Brenham.
The Aggie Fish-Texas frosh
game will start at 2 p.m. with all
proceeds going to charity. The
game is sponsored by the Brazos
County Shriners.
Much of the success of the Fish,
who go into Saturday’s game with
three straight wins, is credited to
the speedy backs who may the
next Aggie “Team of Tomorrow.”
Not since 1954 when John David
Crow, Loyd Taylor, Bobby Conrad,
et al, were freshmen have the
Cadets been blessed with such a
group of backs as the current
crop.
Good Night
All had good nights against the
Rice Owlets last week in Houston.
Rogers picked up 113 yards rush
ing, including a 91-yard touchdown
jaunt; Reagan rushed for 56
yards, scored twice and his block
ing and overall defense helped tre
mendously and the others showed
up well.
The Fish opened with a loss to
the TCU Wogs, 0-12, then won
three straight over Baylor (17-6),
Houston Kittens
Owlets (27-13).
(21-7) and Rice
The Fish came
l from behind to down the Ricelets
last week in Rice Stadium.
