Natural Science Conferences Announced

Herber D. Mills, of Dallas, a senior majoring in building
products marketing, is the winner of a $400 scholarship
from the Elliott Bay Lumber Co. of Seattle, Wash. Mills,
abed in a Bryan hospital, receives the scholarship from
Dennis Jackson of the lumber company. Mills is recupe-

rating from a recent hunting accident. He was selected by
faculty members of the Division of Business Administra
tion on the basis of scholarship, leadership' and interest in
building material industry.
Undergraduate research confer
ences to be held at four of the
state’s outstanding centers of sci
entific research during the 1960-61
school year, have been announced
by Dr. Charles LaMotte of the
Department of Biology, state pro
gram director.

ing distributed from College Sta
tion to all of the accredited junior
colleges of the state and to senior
colleges 'hot offering extensive
graduate work, for this, the sec
ond of a series of such conferences,
Dr. LaMotte says.
These conferences have been
made possible by a' grant to tne
Texas Academy of Science by the
National Science Foundation.
One of the conferences will be
held at A&M Mar. 20-21. The
others will be held at the Univer-'
sity of Texas, Feb. 9-10, Texas
Tech, Mar. 9-10, North Texas
State College and Texas Woman’s
University, Denton, Mar. 16-17.
More than 300 promising science
students from 70 or more of the
state’s colleges are due to partici
pate. Each conference will be a
two-day program, stressing the na
ture, significance, requirements
and rewards of present day re
search in the natural sciences.
Most of the 311 students who
participated in similar conferences
last year are continuing this year
into more advanced phases of their
preparation for teaching and re
search in a great variety of med
ical, biological and physical sci
ence fields, Dr. LaMotte says.’

2,627 Visit Campus
During October
A total of 2,627 visitors were on
the campus during the month of
October, P. L. Downs, Jr., official
greeter of the College, announced
today. They were attending short
courses, conferences, class reun
ions and other scheduled meetings.
The College had 662,217 visitors
on the campus for scheduled meet
ings and activities during the elev
en years and five months that
ended Nov. 1, 1960.

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council
of College Station, Texas:
Section 1. Upon recommendation of the
City Zoning Commission, the following
described area is hereby changed from
district No. 3 (Apartment House District)
to District No. 4 (Business District) as
defined in Ordinance No. 38.
Being part of a one acre tract conveyed
to Norton R. Burkhalter by I. P. Cooner,
May 6, 1935, Volume 89, Page 45.
Beginning , at a , point where the North
line of said one acre tract intersects the
East line of Highway No. 6;
Thence, North 45 East along the IJIorth
line of said one acre tract 150 feet and
corner;
Thence, South 45 East 70 feet and
corner;
Thence, South 45 West with the alley or
street line now established 150 feet and
corner on the West line of said one acre
tract, and the East line of Highway No.
6;
Thence, with said line 70 feet to the
place of beginning, fronting 70 feet on
