This year the Aggies, racked by graduation, scholastic and pro losses, stand at the crossroads. They need to win seven games to break even for the year and have only eight to go. Shortstop Ralph Plum- lee, who was to join them on the all-SWC team along with Catcher Gary Herrington, was getting the Intramurals Class A cross country was run last week and the results showed David Lowman, from Bizzell, win ning the event in 7:44.9 minutes, just one-tenth of a second short of last year’s record run. F-l came in fifth place. , The scpring for outfit places showed Co. F-l winning first place, Co. A-l taking second place, Co. H-l copping thrid place, Sq. 11 winning fourth place, and Sq. 1 taking fifth place. In Class B tennis Co. D-2 won their match from Sq. 14 for league winner. Other matches played showed Sq. 13 defeating Co. K-2, Sq. 3 winning over Co. H-2, Sq. 5 besting Co. E-2, the White Band defeating Co. B-l, and Sq. 8 win ning over Co. B-2. One game was played in fresh man softball which showed Co. G-2 winning over Co. B-2. Today’s schedule features fresh man softball and tennis. big hits and turning the hard plays into easy outs. Sanderson failed to pass, Schap er and Herrington completed their eligibility and Plumlee grabbed a large chunk of money to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers. . The Aggies currently stand 1-6 in conference play and 5-12 for the year with but one complete game on record through 17 contests. The pitching has been spotty and the returning lettermen have failed to come through at the plate as they did a year ago. A&M hosts TCU in a pair of loop games here Friday and Satur day and hope to start the long road back. The Cadets, after op ening the SWC with a 19-6 victory over SMU, have dropped six straight conference games and lost two of three practice games in San Antonio over the Easter holi days. A&M split with Brooke Army Medics and dropped a 4-3 decision to St. Mary’s. Outfielder Byron Barber of Dal las leads the regulars with an even .300 batting mark. All the others are below that and three are hit ting less thsft .200. Three pitchers have borne the brunt of the mound duties. They are Olen Jordan of Paris, David Pitcock of Dallas and Don Cost- low of Lufkin. Each has won one game and share nine defeats. In SWC play Jordan has the lone win while each has lost two.
