Brush Fire Still Burning
In Southwest Texas Hills
By The Associated Press
A raging brush fire continued
to burn Friday in the Southwest
Texas Hill Country about 15 miles
northwest of Junction, but Mayor
H. E. Wright reported it was under
better control than previously.
Earlier, Fire Chief Murphy
Bruines of Junction radioed that
firemen checked the roaring fire
which at times was nearly two
miles wide and advancing about
400 yards an hour.
Mayor Wright said further ex
tent of the fire would depend on
wind conditions.
Asked if the blaze posed any
threat to Junction, Wright replied,
“I wouldn’t think so. That depends
on the wind.”
About 200 men and women joined
the fight after the firebroke free
and swept across brushy range-
land. Bulldozers and cattle spray
ing equipment were used in the
battle.
