Dr. Charles Hamilton of the
Texas State Teachers’ Assn, staff
in Austin and in charge of the
state Student Assn, will be the
principal speaker at the next
meeting , Oct. 27, of the A&M
George Barton Wilcox Chapter of
the Student National Assn.
At this year’s first meeting
Tuesday night, President David
Arnold introduced the sponsors
and discussed plans for future
meetings. He also announced that
Hamilton will speak.
Terry Ellison, secretary-treas
urer, collected dues from 35 mem
bers and 2 sponsors present, while
Walter Johnston, vice-president
and program chairman, gave a re
port on the executive council meet
ing held last week and discussed
plans for the future programs.
The meeting closed with a mo
tion that the election of officers
be postponed until the Oct. 27
meeting.
Excused List
Eligibility Set
Only students who are absent
on official college business or
sick at the College Hospital or
sick at home may be placed on
the college’s official excused list.
Dean of Students James P. Han-
nigan said this morning.
Plannigan said many new stu
dents and faculty members were
not aware of the college regula
tion regarding the official excused
list.
Absences other than those cov
ered on the official excused list
may be excused by the individual
faculty member, Hannigan said.

To Attend BSU Meet

expected to be among the 2,500
attending the 40th annual Texas
Baptist Student Union Convention
in Fort Worth this weekend.

and universities will flock to Fort

tion headquarters will be the
Travis Avenue Baptist Church.
The A&M delegation will be
headed by Cliff Harris, A&M BSU
director.
“There is no fee this year,” Har
ris announced, “the only cost will
be for room, board apd transporta
tion.”
A station wagon will leave from
in front of the BSU at 10:00 a.m.
Friday morning, Harris said.
Top-notch speakers from the
Southern Baptist Convention and
outstanding Christian laymen will
address the students, said Dr. W.
F. Howard, director of the student
department for the Baptist Gen
eral Convention of Texas.
Max Barnett, senior from Little
field, is to be student assistant
and will preside at the Sunday
morning services.
The A&M group will usher at
the Sunday morning service and
will receive the Southern Mission
offering, according to Harris. Mal-
comb Hollingswoi’th will be in
charge.
Also featured in the Convention
will be special music by the 200-
voice state BSU Choir, directed by

periences during the Sunday morn
ing session.
Following two of the major con
vention addresses, college students
will analyze their talks.
The panel discussion will follow
the keynote address by Dr. Cur-
bert G. Rutenber, professor of
social ethics and philosophy of re-^
ligion at Andover Newton Theo
logical School, Newton Center,
Mass.; and an address entitled
“Reporting Russia,” by Dr. Paul 1
Ggren, executive director of the
Dallas Council on World Affairs
who has just returned from a vis
it to the Soviet Union.
Other speakers will include Dr.
Forrest C. Feezor, executive secre
tary of the Baptist General Con
vention of Texas; the Rev. William
H. Crook, pastor of the First Bap
tist Church in Nacogdoches; Ross
Coggins, Southern Baptist mission-
ai - y to Indonesia; and Georgia
Lee, television and religious film
star from Hollywood, Calif.
The Convention theme is “To
ward Maturity in Christ.”
