PAGE 6 Thursday,September 24, 1950 THE BATTALION Athletic Officers Make Plans For Fall Intramural Schedule By JOE CALLICOATE Assistant Sports Editor Intramural organization for the 1959-00 season began yesterday with a meeting of Corps and civil ian athletic officers. Barney Welch, intramural direc tor, presided at the meeting and gave the aims and instruction for the intramural program this year. Welch gave the officers entry cards, schedules and intramural handbooks. The handbooks will be distributed to each room on the campus as well as to students who live off campus. Swimming intramurals will be gin Oct. 6. The freshman division will swim in the afternoon and the upperclassmen at night. After swimming is over the freshmen will start football, horse shoes and ping pong while the up perclassmen will have basketball, handball and bowling. A new sport is in store for in tramural participants this year with a pig and calf scramble. The scramble will probably be a three night event with the five best times getting intramural points. Welch said that date would be an nounced far enough ahead to give each organization a chance to or ganize a team. Another new wrinkle for this year’s intramura'ls will be a Pan American team composed of stu dents who are from Pan America, but live in different dorms. Welch added that there had been a need for such a team for several years because many of the Pan American students don’t play the sports that w r e do. Welch strongly stressed that the intramurals be handled by the in tramural officers instead of passed on to someone else. He added that the intramural officers had been here three years and can give a better program than some of the more inexperienced men, and that certain sports should not be “pushed off” on under-classmen. “Spectators should be left at home in regular scheduled games,” said Welch. He said that there just wasn’t enough room for spec tators around some of the intra mural fields. Welch said that he needs 50 in tramural managers and anyone in terested should contact him at his office in DeWare Field House be fore Oct. 30. He also said that individual equipment could be picked up at the intramural office at any time. James A. Priddy, athletic officer for College View, said that any one living in College View and wanting to play intramurals to contact him at A-9-D. First baseman Kent Hadley of Kansas City played with Terre Haute, Augusta and Syracuse in 1956. He formerly belonged to Detroit. WHAT About Your Social Activities After College?
