EVERY MAN COUNTS NASHVILLE, Tenn. (^—Meth odist Bishop Roy H. Short, urging fuller Christian service by laymen, said: “Every church member has some particular talent which may be put to use for the edifying of the church and the building of the Kingdom. This includes not only the 10-talent man but the two- talent man and even the one-talent man.” NEW TREADS Applied on sound tires bodies or on your own tires. My steady girl say she will not visit my house while my parents are away. She thinks my parents are out of order and says her parents would be shocked at the idea. I told her my parents had confidence in me, and that she should see it that way. Don’t you think she is showing a lack of trust in me?” The question is not that your parents have confidence in you, and that therefore the girl should, but rather that the other parents do not have confidence in you perhaps, in a situation such as you suggest. Therefore, the girl has reasonable doubts. Even in this day of re laxed discipline, it is considered bad taste for a girl to be alone with a boy in such a situation though others of her age are pres ent. Perhaps she and her parents could be appeased by the presence of a chaperone, and if you object to that, they are justified in their criticism. Formal Dance “My parents have invited my boy friend to a dance at a club. My father says the boy should wear formal clothes. The boy says he does not have a tuxedo, and will nqt borrow one as he pi’efers to wear, a dark suit. I am wearing a formal evening gown. Should I try to persuade my father to agree that my date would be properly attired in the dai'k suit?” That’s a letter from a 16-year-old girl. As a member of a club, your father is committed to observing the rules, so if he suggests formal attire, it must be the order for that evening. If the boy stubborn ly refused to go along with the idea, you should get another date. Discuss the situation with your fa ther, however. Many clubs are not strict about such matters, and your father may have mentioned formal attire without considering the young man’s ward robe. Some young men have a definite dislike of formal clothes being foisted or them, and often it is bashfulnesj that keeps them from climbing in* to these duds. Once he has been seasoned, the social bit comes eas ier to a young fellow. Love or Grades? “My father is a college professor. I attend the school where he teaches and we live near the uni versity. I have an attractive boy friend, although I am overweight and not very pretty. We have a hobby of photography. This boy was in one of my father’s classes last year, and my father did give him some special attention. I have not heard from him since school was out, and my girl friend says he was only interested in my fa ther’s tutoring, and that I will not hear from him until next fall, if then. ” I would not worry about what the friend thinks. Your guess is as good as hers in this case, and she is being very unkind to make such comments. If the boy does communicate with you, don’t re mind him of the lapse. It could be that this boy does consider you a good friend, and has no serious intentions.
