Jones, Who retired as professor and head of the Depart- | ment of Agricultural Engineering, j A&M, in September, 1958, was i honored at Ithaca, New York, re cently by the American Society of I Agricultural Engineers. Prof. Jones was awarded the John Deere Gold Medal for outstanding engi neering achievements in the field of agriculture. The ASAE cited Jones’ long and distinguished career at A&M and his contributions to improved ag ricultural engineering practices and education in the South and Southwest in awarding him the medal. Jones joined the faculty of A&M as an instructor in agricultural en gineering, in 1921, and in 1938 was made acting head of the depart ment. In 1940, he was named to head the department, the post he occupied until his retirement last September. Born in New Lisbon, Wis., he was educated in the Mauston, Wis., High School, and at the University of Wisconsin, Iowa State College and A&M. Dr. Doak, A&M Biology Head, To Serve As Visiting Lecturer Dr. C. C. Doak, professor and head of the Department of Biology, A&M, will be a visiting lecturer at National Science Foundation In stitutes for Teachers on the cam puses of seven colleges and uni versities this summer. His first lecture will be at the Summer Institute for Teachers at the University of Texas tomorrow. He will lecture at Prah’ie View A&M on Monday and will lecture E. Wayne Schmidt Gets Scholarship E. Wayne Schmidt, senior arch itectural major at A&M, has re ceived a $500 Black-Brollief Schol arship for the 1959-60 academic year. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Schmidt of 619 North Fourth, Temple, and is married to the former Mary Folschinsky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Folschinsky of 920 Duval, Temple. A 1949 graduate of Temple High School, a 1956 graduate of Temple Junior College and a vete ran of three years in the U. S. Army, he was chosen for the scholarship award by the Faculty Scholarships Committee of the college. During the 1959-60 school year, Schmidt will be vice-president of the student chapter of the Ameri can Institute of Architects and managing editor of the Architec ture Plus, a student publication of the Division of Architecture. He will also be a member of the Me morial Student Center Creative Arts Committee and a member of the executive committee of the MSC Camera Club. the following night before teach ers attending the Summer Insti tute at A&M. Fi'om mid-July to mid-August, Doak will make a series of lec tures at Randolph Macon College and Hampton Institute in Virginia, at Converse College in South Car olina and at Texas Southern Uni versity in Houston. A native Texan, Doak has been a member of the faculty here for more than 30 years and has been head of the Department of Biology since 1938. For the past three summers he has served as director of the Science Enrichment Pro gram for High Ability Secondary School Students held at A&M. He is listed in “Who’s Who in America,” and “American Men of Science,” is a past president of the Texas Academy of Science and a member of the American Assn, for the , Advancement of Science and the Botanical Society of America.
