Tefteller of Gilmer, candidate for a B.S. degree in chemistry at the May 23 gradua tion, has been awarded a Student Medal by the Louisiana Chapter of the American Institute of Chem ists. This medal has been awarded to Tefteller for outstanding under graduate work in chemistry. Students honored with this award are selected on the basis of scholarship, leadership, ability and character. In addition to the medal Teftel ler will receive a one-year sub scription to The Chemist. The building is part of the colleges’ $507,000 B&CU Building To Be Finished in Early June The new $507,000 Building and College Utilities building is sched uled to be finished sometime in early June, according to W. How ard Badgett, manager of the A&M Physical Plant. “The B&CU building is just a part of the college’s 10 year plan which also includes a new Agri culture Extension and homemak ing building and a Nuclear Science Building,” said Badgett. The pro gram is headed by J. H. Walker, manager of the A&M System Phys ical Plants. Located behind the old B&CU building and the U.S. Post Office, the buildings are spread out over 47,100 square feet and will house a freight receiving station, paint and carpenters shop, electrical shop, general maintenance shop, plumb ing shop, fh’e station and new B&CU office. “It still does not take care of all of odr needs but it is a long way from the old buildings, the first of which was built in 1904 at a cost of $3,000,” said Badgett. “The main office will be air conditioned and we will receive some new machinery to replace the old antiquated machines as well as better sheet metal equipment,” Badgett said. Badgett said the “10 year plan” also includes the addition of a trickling filter and a final clari fier for the sewage disposal plant. The new fire station will con tain a fire hose drier which will save time drying the hoses and will help preserve them. The old B&CU shacks will be torn down and all that will be left is the building which now contains the fire station, B&CU office and the paint and carpenter shop. Basic Division Meet Set Saturday A meeting of all Basic Division students will be held in Guion Hall at 10 a.m. Saturday according to C. H. Ransdell, associate dean of the division. Ransdell said the purpose of the meeting is to outline policies for closing out the 1958-59 school year and entering school next fall. He also said the summer school session would be discussed.
