The 15-man field is selected on the basis of first place team, four men; second place team, three men; third and fourth place teams, two men each; and the other four teams can enter one man. Tech won the conference race followed by TCU, A&M, Baylor, Texas, SMU, Arkansas and Rice. The hoods are to be left at the Registrar’s Office no later than 1:00 p. m., Tuesday, May 19 (this ar rangement will be accomplished by a representative of the College Exchange Store). The Ph.D. hoods will not be worn in the procession since all such candi dates will be hooded on the stage as a part of the ceremonies. Candidates for the Master’s Degree will fcrear the master’s cap and gown; those who are candidates for the Bachelor’s De gree, except Military students, will wear the bachelor’s cap and gown. All Military students who are candidates for degrees will wear appropriate military uniforms. Rental of caps and gowns may be ar ranged with the Exchange Store. Buddy Atwell from Midland, Ed ward Chiburis from College Sta tion and Thomas Harrison from Corsicana received the George P. Mitchell Scholarship Awards in be ing selected as outstanding juniors in geology and geophysics. James Costa, Fort Worth, was presented a George P. Mitchell Fellowship Award as the senior with the highest scholastic record. His award was a gold watch. Costa also received the Houston Geological Society Award, pre sented annually to ■the outstanding senior in geology at A&M, the University of Texas, Rice Insti tute and the University of Hous ton. This award was $50 in cash and one-year paid membership in the Houston Geological Society. Lindon Roberson from Hooks was presented a George P. Mitchell Fellowship Award as the senior in geology and geophysics who has made the most improvement in his academic work. He received a gold watch. George P. Mitchell, donor of the Mitchell Scholarship and Fellow ship Awards, graduated from A&M in 1938 with a B.S. degree in pe troleum engineering. He was pre sented a gold watch as the out standing senior in petroleum engi neering in 1938.
