Daffy Trotters Feature Variety Show Tonight The clowning Harlem Globetrot ters tangle with the capable Phila delphia Sphas in the feature of a huge variety show tonight at 7:30 p.m. in G. Rollie White Coliseum. In the opener of the doublehead er exhibition, the efficient Holly wood Queens girls’ quintet will meet the Aggie All-Stars. In the main event, the Globe trotters will pit their usual array of talented court jesters against the strong Sphas. Featured by the Trotters are veterans J. C. Gipson, 6-8 pivot man, and 6-4 Stan Burrell. Elmer Robinson, oldest player in the Harlem ranks and now assistant coach to Saperstein, along with dribbling wizard Leon Hillard, Johnnie Klein and 6-4 Willie Thom as, is among the top Globetrotter performers. The Sphas, oldest pro team in the world in point of service, boast former Toledo University star Jim Gerber, 6-7 center, 6-5 Ron Ellis from Miami of Ohio, Tony Corey, 6-4 forward from Temple ‘Univers ity, and 6-2 Mike Feinstein. Philadelphia, playing its 41st season, has twice broken Globe trotter win streaks past the 100- game mark. The Easterners ^are the only quintet to top the Globe- trotters in continuous years of playing. The’ Trotters, now in their 32nd year of world tours, entered the current campaign with 6,114 vic tories against but 313 setbacks. An unusual contest will be pre sented in the opener when the Hol lywood Queens, an all girl aggre gation, does battle vyith the Aggie All-Stars, a team composed of Ag track, baseball and golf players. Joan Brietkx-us from Buffalo, N. Y. and Jackie Wi'age, 6-5 lass from San Diego, Calif., head the film city cagers. Other Queen hoopsters include 5-8 Lucille Fox and 5-7 Dottye Vender Haar. The Aggie All-Stars may prove to be worthy opponents to the pretty Queens, fielding a lanky squad with such performers as 6-5 A1 Jones, Ag golfer; 6-6 Wayne Schaper, Cadet baseball star; Paul Madura, 6-5 trackster, Dick Hick- erson, 6-4 diamond performer, and 6-3 Bobby Thomas. High individual honors for the match went to the Farmers’ Don Jones, who averaged 194 for the five games. Teammate Bob Brown followed with a match average of 187. Larry Sharp of. the Ponies won honors for the highest single game of the match, rolling a 266. Sharp also pressed Brown closely in the total pin race with a 186 average. Ken Savage of the Aggies bowled the second high game, tip ping 232 pins. A&M’s second team was not quite so successful as the Mus tang second five took four of five contests. Jerry Reynolds of the Aggies captured total pin honors for the meet with a match average of 184. In a special doubles match held after the team match, the Aggies’ Freshman basketball coach Shelby Metcalf announced that all freshman baseball candi dates will meet Monday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. in DeWare Fieldhouse. All persons interested in com peting for positions on the Frosh team are urged to at tend the meeting. Figures released yesterday through golf Coach Joe Fagan show Martindale totaling a four over par 424 through 108 qualify ing holes—a 15-stroke advantage over second place Ed Triplett. In the fi-osh ranks, competition is somewhat keener as Fetters’ 11 over par 435 tops Dicky Duble by a mere stroke. Fagan said the competitions would continue through the middle of March to determine the top per formers for intercollegiate and conference competition. He added that he usually carries from four to six golfers on the team. Others in the running for var sity posts are Binky Mitchella, one stroke short of Triplett at 440; Ralph Toland, 447; Tommy Fon- esca, 457; A1 Jones, 453; Buck Prewett, 462, and Arthur Hull, 467.
