Dr. Verne A. Scott, veterinary practitioner from Stephenville, was principal speaker, talking o n “General Practice." Dr. Scott presented some of hia rases in handling the more common condi tions confronting cattle and horse veterinarians. In addition to his speech, Dr. Scott presented films showing some of his cases TeCMNIRAMA TiCMNtCCXO* SATURDAY ONLY a rt a SCONA Topic Announced By Pfeuffer Sources of Tension; National and International, is the topic of dis cussion for SCONA IV’, meeting Dec. 10-13, according to Bob Pfeuffer, SCONA IV cheirman SCONA, Student Conference or National Affairs, is an interna tionally known conference for stu dent leaders in the South and Southwest United States, Canada and Mexico and is under the super vision of the Memorial Student Center Directorate. There have been no speakers se lected as yet, but two Round Table co-chairmen who served last year have consented to return this year They are Dr. Ross Pritch ard of Southwestern at Memphis, Tenn., and Dr R. A. Tsanoff of Rice Institute. Speakers and addi tional Round Table co-chairmen will be selected soon, says Pfeuffer A study of the topic has been prepared by the Library of Con gress and the SCONA committee expects a copy of the study to ar rive in the near future This study will be submitted to the delegates along with other tdbliographic ma terial as an aid in preparing for the conference. According to the SCONA pro cedure, any interested student may attend the session*, but may not actually participate in the discus- aiona, Pfeuffer said. Doak was referring to the tele vision panel he will moderate Oct. 26. at 8,30 a m . on KBTX-TV, for gifted high school students inter ested in science who were in his class this summer. Doak was born in Scurry Coun ty, near Snyder, in 18P5 He spent his first two undergraduate years at A&M before enlisting in the service during World War I. Immediately following the war he enrolled in North Texas State Teachers College where he receiv ed his B S degree in li*22. “I wanted to come back to AAM but the semester was already in progress so I enrolled in North Texas State and it was a lucky thing that I did. For it was in Denton that 1 met my bride to be, Henryetta,” he said. “1 wanted to come back to A AM, 1928; and Ph D at Illinois, 1933 He joined the faculty at AAM in 192fi and bet a me the second head of the Department of Biology in 1937, replacing O. M Bell. Doak belongs to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma XI. He ia a charter member of Sigma XI and a former president He also belongs to the Rotary Club where he hat served as pres ident. His hobbies include one which is very unusual; he collects drift wood which is a branch of crea tive art. He has given lectures to private groupa and has appeared on TV showing his various fig urines which he has produced from driftwood. He is also interested in flow ers and their arrangement. Both he and his wife have won various awards for their flower arrange ments. He is an amateur photographer with a collection of more than 4.000 pictures which he has taken in various parts of the United States. This is one of his most time consuming hobbies. Approximately 18 to 20 men ar* expected to enroll for this course which consists of two schools. One school is of six weeks duration and covers crawler tractors, motor graders and motor scrapers. The other school is of eight weeks du ratic- and covers boom equipment, such as drag lines and clam sheila.
