The Kilgore Junior College Rangerettes many projects staged through the Memorial
were one of the featured attractions in the Student Center activities program each
1958 Intercollegiate Talent Show, one of the year.
“The Living- Room of the Cam
pus” at A&M is the Memorial Stu
dent Center, a spacious modern
building of striking architectural
design, built in memory of the
A&M men who died in World
Wars I and II.
The MSC, as the building is
known on the campus, is located
south of the main drill field. Oper
ated on the idea that it is “a home
away from home”, with all the
built-in extras, the MSC houses
many facilities for the convenience
of Aggies.
For leisure-time occupation, the
student may enjoy his favorite
records in the record-listening
rooms, scan magazines, books or
hometown newspapers in the
Browsing Library; play card
games, chess or checkers in the
game room; watch television, play
table tennis or bowl; or engage in
conversation with a fellow Aggie
while sitting in the comfortable
chairs in one of the three lounge
areas.
Goveiming the policies of the
MSC is the Memorial Student Cen
ter Council, composed of eight stu
dents, five faculty members and
two former students. A student is
president of the council, and this
year’s president is Hugh Whaidon,
’58. He will be assisted by Ronald
Bufoi’d, ’59, vice president.
In addition to its physical facil
ities, the MSC sponsors a full and
varied student activity program,
run completely by students, with
staff assistance. The Memorial
Student Center Directorate, com
posed of the chairmen of the 17
activity committees and the presi
dent and vice president of the coun
cil governs these activities.
All new students are invited to
become members of these commit
tees, which represent activity in
terests fi-om flying airplanes to
planning the presentation of na
tionally-known speakers. An ap-
portunity to join one of the groups
will be given to all new students
at the annual MSC Freshman Open
House, Tuesday, Sept. 9, when each
committee will set up a display
booth in the ballroom.
The committees and their func
