before the finals tomorrow afternoon.
All Is Not Football
For New Ag Coach
By TOMMY KEITH
Who says a coache’s job ends on
the football field ?
Here’s second-guessing - the Sun-
m Hay morning drug store quarter
backs.
Coach Jim Myers has listed his
speaking engagements for the next
few months preceding the foot
ball season. And, if they aren’t
Enough, they are the only ones
scheduled so far.
From deep East Texas to Idaho
and Utah roams A&M’s new guide
of the pigskin sport. He hardly
gets a breather in the next two
weeks with some of the fanciest
reverse fielding since Charley Trip-
pi ran loose in the Oil Bowl in
1947.
All this for a guard who never
ran "with the ball. Coach Myers
starts May 20 in Athens, thence
west to Bryan, south to Corpus
Christi and back to Houston. A
swing back to East Texas to Long
view and Paris gets him ready for
a tedious journey west to San An
gelo.
Only a week and a half-,-out of
Houston, Coach Myers finds he
must return for a B’nai B’rith ban-
* quet on June 5. On June 7 he has
to be in San Antonio.
And, finally, out of breath and
probably very short of extempor
aneous thought, the Tennessee
single wing expert looks forward
to a two-months rest.
Or, is it a rest? In this short
time he must prepare for the fall,
review movies of spring practice
and definitely make up his mind
about the season.
But, with all that in mind he
still knows that on August 4, 5,
and G he has to be in Sun Valley
to teach Idaho coaches fundament-
als?of the single wing. Two weeks
later he is in demand at a coach
ing clinic in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He’s supposed to make all these
after-dinner speeches and coach
football, too ?
