The State Highway Department
has already appropriated $25,000,-
000 for highway improvement such
as eliminating dangerous curves,
widening narrow pavements, im
proving culverts and shoulder im

Strict Punishment

those which relate to speeding and
driving while intoxicated.
Last year excessive speed was
involved in 57 per cent of all fatal
highway accidents in Texas and
drinking was involved in 34 per
cent of the fatal accidents, he said.
“I urge the law enforcement of
ficers of Texas to ‘throw the book’
at persons who are guilty of driv
ing while intoxicated,” Daniel said.
Asks Texans’ Help
In conclusion Daniel said every
Texan should accept traffic safety
as a “do-it-youi’self” project to de
crease the state highway deaths.
He pointed out this can be done as
shown by the results of the addi
tional effort put forth during the
Christmas holidays.
“Each of us should support the
excellent work of our State High
way Pati’ol and other law enforce
ment officers,” he concluded.
