Restraining from sexual re
lations before marriage is the
highest ethical demand of
Christianity and places a bur
den of responsibility on free
men under God, Dr. Robert E. Led
better told a group of students last
night in the YMCA.
Speaking on “Dating and Mat
ing,” Ledbetter, director of the
Methodist Student Center at the
University of Texas, disagreed
with the many psychologists who
feel that sexual relationships be
fore marriage are necessary.
“We must be loyal to ourselves
if we ai-e going to live with our
selves,” he said. “We should make
sure that the person we marry is
the one we really love and under
stand. We can save many heai-t-
aches and anxieties by communi
cating and finding out what each is
thinking.”
Ledbetter presented many inter
esting tips on how to live after
marriage. He pointed out it is
best for couples to move away
from their parents or inlaws.
“Troublesome inlaws have caused
many marriages to end in divorce,”
he said.
Ledbetter told the group that
quarreling is sometimes good be
cause it is a “means of testing-
love.”
Various questions were asked by
the students after the talk. Led
better’s talk was the first of four
marriage forums to be presented
by the YMCA.

Behind the iron curtain is a powerful
'. /* transmitter which tries to garble the messages
/ which come from the free world.
We like to think that no one can garble
the prayer of a little child to his God. But
sometimes, right here in a free Christian land,
we jam the wave-lengths of faith with
examples of doubt and indifference. Even
parents occasionally stifle the spiritual
yearnings of their own children!
‘One of our freedoms is FREEDOM OF
WORSHIP. In the sight of God, and before
the eyes of a growing generation of free
Americans, what shall we do with this freedom?
There has never been a day when Christian
sincerity in the community, Christian example
in the family, and Christian devotion in the
individual were more essential for the
preservation of our spiritual heritage to
another generation!

THE CHURCH FOR ALL . » .
ALL FOR THE CHURCH
The Church is the greatest fac
tor on earth for the building of
character and good citizenship. It
is a storehouse of spiritual values.
Without' a strong Church, neither
democracy nor civilization can
survive. There are four sound
reasons why every person should
attend services regularly and sup
port the Church. They are: (1)
For his own sake. (2) For his
children's sake. (3) For the sake
of his community and nation. (4)
For the sake of the Church itself,
which needs his moral and ma
terial support. Plan to go to
church regularly and read your
Bible daily.
