Army Floods Baskets In 63-40 Rout Of Flyboys The Army displayed a first half ground game and then filled the air with basketballs in the second period to down the outmanned Air Force squad in the Twelfth Man Bowl game yesterday afternoon in G. Rollie White Coliseum, 63-40. Paced by Loyd Neal, a junior center from Paris, who scored 14 points for the game high produc tion, the “Groundpounders” used their superior height and shooting ability to plaster the “men in blue.” At the half time, the Army held a 29-19 advantage and came back in the second stanza to produce a little more of the same type of attack they used at the start of the game. Jeff Penfield, “C” Composite senior added 11 points as two teammates, Don Alexander and Cliff Salmon, tallied eight points apiece. For the Air Force, Joe Parton, a civilian student from Law scored 10 points while Richard Peacock, civilian student from Legett amassed seven points for runner- up honors. • The two teams, coached by Ernie Turner and Jim McNichol for the Army and Neil Swisher and Sam my Myers for the Air Force, were the pick of the crop from each battalion and group on the campus. The proceeds will go to the Student Aid Fund benefit and the Twelfth Man Scholarship. However, the Student Senate- sponsored game continued at full speed, unaffected by the outside interference, and what has been a tradition on the football field an nually is now going to be a similar occasion on the hardwood. To make it harder, the Automobile Club of Argentina sealed the hood shut at Buenos Aires — no chance to add oil or water or adjust carburetors for high altitude. So the run began — across the blazing Argentine pampas, into the ramparts of the forbidding Andes. Up and up the road climbed, almost 2-§- miles in the sky! Drivers gasped for oxygen at 12,572 feet — but the Turbo-Thrust V8 never slackened its torrent of power, the Full Coil springs smothered every bump, the Turboglide transmission made play of grades up to 30 percent. Then a plunge to the Pacific at Valparaiso, Chile, a quick turn-around and back again.
