A&M CHURCH OF CHRIST “We, the Parents” will be the subject of Minister Mont Whitson’s AAUW Elects New Officers Local branch of the American Association of University Women elected Mrs. Horace R. Blank president for a two-year term at the group’s March meeting. Serving with Mrs. Blank will be Mrs. John C. Calhoun, vice pres ident; Mrs. Charles La Motte, treasurer; Mrs. Frank W. Powell, parliamentarian. Installation will be conducted at the May meeting. Sunday morning sermon. His evening topic will be “The Con tinuation of the Parables.” FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH The Rev. R. D. Longshore will address his congregation on the topic, “The Unpaid Debt,” at Sun day morning worship. Special mu sic will be provided by Mrs. Kirby Meyer. “The Power of One Sin” will be the pastor’s evening sermon subject. FAITH UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST Subject for the Rev. R. F. Buck’s Sunday morning sermon will be “One Great Hour of Sharing.” He will deliver an identical sermon at the 8:30 a.m. service at the Zion United Church of Christ at Kur- ten. The Zion Women’s Guild will meet at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. A&M PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH The Rev. Norman Anderson will speak on “Freedom of Religion in a Democratic Society” at the two worship services Sunday morning. Nursery service will be provided from 8:45 to noon. Leagues meet at 5 p.m., and the Westminster Student Fellowship at 7:15. Local Poetry Society Hears Talk By John Q. Anderson Dr. John Q. Anderson of the A&M English Department faculty told the Poetry Society Monday night that contemporary poetry is based on rebellion against form, concepts and technique. Speaking on “Contemporary Poetry”, Dr. Anderson stated that great poetry is that which has universal appeal at all times. Poems presented by members for criticism Monday night were judged by Dr. Anderson as fol lows: in the serious category— first, “A Winter Night” by Mabel Clare Thomas; second, “Etching,” and third, “Fidelity,” both by Jes sie Meade Franklin. In the light verse, first went to “Look Sheriff!” by Jessie Merle Franklin, second to “Modern Poet ry” by Stella Stuart, and third to “I Am Five” by Eleanor Nance. In the popular vote, first place went to “Grandad” by Eleanor Nance, second to “A Winter Night” and third to “March Is Here”, both by Mabel Clare Thomas, in the serious category. In the light vei’se, “The Muse and the Sagger” by Chai-les Drum- wright took first place; “Celly” by Elisabeth Wood, second, and “I Am Five” by Eleanor Nance, third.
