The Battalion PAGE 2 College Station (Brazos County), Texas I Thursday, February 27, 1958 An Editorial Learning: A Duty Judge James P. Hart last night stressed the importance of the educated mind to the future of our country. His remarks apply not only to the technical and scien tific field but every facet of our educational system today. No more can any field or those studying it afford to maintain an educational status-quo or waste many moments in striving for the betterment of our nation and ultimately mankind in general. In the interests of the nation’s future, each Aggie should spend every available moment preparing himself to serve mankind in his chosen field and becoming a better citizen. As Judge Hart said, too much emphasis is placed on leisure and acquiring material gains and not enough on serving our fellowman as brothers under God should. Letters To The Editor Editor: The Battalion The South once stood behind the wall of tradition, and that wall fell on her. Don’t let that happen to this great institution. Continue the good work in “Letters to the Editor” and I am sure that the lost cause will fall on itself. Bert L. Driskill Jr. ’59 Editor, The Battalion: When we read the Battalion to day, we had the best laugh yet. This coeducation jag which the editor and his ultra-liberal family are on may be abortive, but it is turning this college newspaper into the laughing stock of the community. Your slanted news stories, “fishy” looking student polls and renegade political policies have made the Battalion an oracle of radicalism. One front page cartoon de picts Governor Daniel as a weak ling who has to be goaded into action. Why? After all, Mr. Howard’s request that Governor Daniel do something came just a few hours before the sub-commit tee was dissolved. Are you an tagonistic toward the governor because he is a conservative polit ically ? Or is it because he didn’t instantly take a violently fanati cal stand on the issue ? Woodrow Wilson’s comment might be appropriate to the Bat talion: “A little group of wjllful men representing no opinion but their own.” Sincerely yours, Don Winans, ’59 Norman Orthwein, ’60 Theodore Shields, ’60 What’s Cooking 7:30 Northeast Texas Hometown Club will meet in Room 127 of the Academic Building.
