Turning For Home
Orlando Cossani, Aggie tanker from Argentina, makes the
final turn and heads for the finish line in the 200-yard
butterfly stroke event last Saturday in P. L. Downs Nata
torium. Cossani placed second, which was all A&M could
do, as the Ponies of SMU eased by Art Adamson’s Cadets,
60-26.

Even though this period of the
year is known as the “slack sea
son,” due to the galaxy of days
between football and baseball sea
sons, the Texas Aggies will be
anything but “slack” this Satur
day.
The first day of March will find
Cadet athletes competing on four
fronts, with various bits of fresh
man activity on the side.
Cagers Visit Dallas
With the conference basketball
race ensnarled, Coach Bob Rogers’
dangerous Cadets roam to Dallas
to do battle with the Southern
Methodists, who haven’t lost a
game on their home court since
1954.
Last weekend, against testy Tex
as Tech, the Ponies ripped the
Raiders within the safe confines
I of their new field house, 66-56,
while the Ags pasted Arkansas,
66-57.
Baseball Begins
Coach Beau Bell’s baseball squad
welcomes the blustery month of
March by opening their season
against the University of Houston
on Kyle Field Saturday afternoon
at 2.
The Cougars present one of the
best hitting attacks in the Missouri
Valley Conference, and should give
ample test to the strong Cadet
pitching staff.
First Triangular Duel
Over in Austin, the University of
Texas plays host to the University
of Houston and the Aggies in the
first triangular meet of the year
for all three schools.
The meet, which will produce
both varsity and freshman com
petition, will mark the debut of
Coach Ray Putnam, former cross
country coach who succeeded Col.
“Andy” Anderson as head track
mentor.
The University of Texas will
field one of the outstanding track
teams in the nation to test th^
once-powerful Cadets, while dis
tance-minded Cougars hope for a
slight share of the honors on the
Forty Acres.
Swimmers Host ’Sips
On the waterfront, a grudge
duel will be held in Downs Nata
torium Saturday afternoon at 4
when the highly-touted Aggies
meet the Texas Longhorns in a
swimming match.
The Cadets, still smarting over
their recent loss to Southern
Methodist, hope to make it their
second straight win after defeat
ing Texas Tech 74-11 last Satur
day.
On the freshman scene, the Fish
swimmers tackle Lamar High
School of Houston, one of the
finest high school swimming
squads in the state.
