Myers Eager; Awaits Chance As “Loyal Ag Coach Jim Myers of Iowa State, named as head football coach and athletic director at Texas A&M, • said last night he was overwhelmed with telegrams and telephone calls from Aggieland. “I’m looking forward to being a loyal Aggie,” Myers commented. “I’ve always had a soft spot for Texas A&M since I was a kid in the days of John Kimbrough,” he said. Myers referred to the Aggie backfield man who was named The Associated Press All- America in 1939 and 1940. “There have been a lot of peo ple hei’e at Iowa State Who’ve been good to me,” Myers said. “But I couldn’t let that enter into my decision.” He referred to Texas A&M as a “terrific school” with possibili ties for an outstanding athletic program that are “real good.” Myers said he told Iowa State officials about 3:30 p. m. today - that he was leaving. the Aggie student campaign to get Myers. “They were dynamic, impres sive young men with a sparkle in their eye and they sold me, really,” he said. News of Myers’ decision to leave, which gave Iowa State the problem of looking for a new football coach, broke so suddenly that few were prepared for it. Dwight Nichols, tailback of the 1957 Iowa State team and the only sophomore named on last year’s all-Big Eight team, said he had nothing against Myers for quitting here.
