The 6-9 all-purpose player was carried from Tuesday’s night game with the Baylor Bears with a badly twisted ankle. Winning the game was not worth the loss. At first it was feared that the ankle, the right one, was broken, but later examination proved this to be false. Despite the injury Lawrence is in good spirts and hopes to be ready for the Aggies next game on the 28th with the Arkansas Razorbacks. The tall sophomore, whom for mer Coach Ken Loeffler called | “the best player he’d seen since Tom Cola,” has been the team’s leading scorer, hitting the basket for 163 points in 13 games. Probably the outstanding sopho more in the conference, Lawrence has made art average of 14.7 points per game. Last year as a fresh man he averaged 28 points per game and broke the school’s Fish scoring record. This year the star has not ap proached that record, but the com petition has been much stiffer. His best game to date has been with Texas in which he scored 22 points. The 19-year-old center-forward has been an important cog in the Aggies defense. Besides blocking numerous shots he has swept the backboards clean 93 times. Stepping into his shoes at the post position will be red-headed Jim McNichol, the man who was the downfall of the Teasips in the last three contests, or Dave Cor son, 6-6 soph from New Orleans. McNichol, a 6-5 junior from Pennsylvania, has scored 57 points in 13 games for a 4.4 average. He has collected 61 rebounds. Replacing Lawrence after he was injured in the Baylor game, the Pennsylvania junior made five points and collected three re bounds. In practice he has been looking as good as last year. Corson, playing behind Lawrence and McNichol, has not seen much action this season. The responsi bility now being placed on his shoulders may give him the chance to show his great potential. Lawrence Benched Soph scoring sensation, T. Wayne Lawrence was ended at 163 against Baylor—at least of Pawcatuck, Conn, is show contemplating for the time being, his injured right angle.
