ed president of the A&M Garden
Club at its meeting Friday after
noon at the Memorial Student
Center.
Serving with Mrs. Williams dur
ing the next club year will be Mrs.
John Perry, first vice president;
Mrs. C. D. Holland, second vice
president; Mrs. C. W. Pewters,
third vice president.
Mrs. R. F. Sauer, recording sec

The meeting was opened with
a prayer by the chaplain, Mrs.
Ran Boswell, and a New Year’s
greeting by the president, Mrs.
Tom Taylor.
During the business session, it
was decided to purchase a tree to
be planted in the cemetery on
Arbor Day. Mrs. Marion Pugh
was appointed chairman of a com
mittee to provide decoration for
the football banquet to be held
next month.
The program on soil conserva
tion was presented by Jack Bar
ton, soil conservation specialist
with the Extension Service.
Newmanites Elect
Lefner President
Delvin J. Lefner, senior petrol
eum engineering major from
Georgetown, was elected president
of the Aggie Newman Club for
the second semester in a meeting
held Sunday, Jan. 11, in the St.
lary’s Catholic Student Center.
Other officers elected were Sid-
ey Kunz, Kerrville, vice-president;
Alden Smith, Burkburnett, secre-

tary.
Emphasizing the importance
of conservation, he stated that
civilizations have risen and fall
en in proportion to the care they
took of their natural resources.
He was introduced by Miss Sadie
Hatfield.
Following the meeting, members
and guests were served coffee by
Mrs. A1 B. Nelson. An arrange
ment of ivy and coral vine, by
Mrs. J. E. Roberts, adorned the
table. Preserved plums from Hong
Kong were offered with the coffee
by the hostesses, Mrs. C. D. Hol
land and Mrs. H. J. McLellan.
A foliage arrangement was dis
played by Mrs. Carl Williams on
another table.
The next meeting will be a no
hostess noon luncheon in the
Memorial Student Center. Mrs. C.
W. Pewters is in charge of res
ervations.
Law Society
Plans Austin Visit
Members of the Pre-Law Society
began planning for an educational
trip to Austin sometime in the
spring at a meeting Monday night.
The group outlined visits to the
Supreme Court, the Court of Crim
inal Appeals, the University of
Texas law school, and other places
in the state’s capital during the
one-day visit.
Further plans will be made at
later meetings.
