Beds Tie NL Fieldins Marl
The Cincinnati Redlegs, better
known for slugging than defensive
ability, tied a National League
fielding record in 1957 with a big
boost from shortstop Roy McMillan
and thii’d baseman Don Hoak.
leased today showed that the Red-
legs field .982, making only 107
errors in 5,848 chances. This tied
the club mark set by the St. Louis
Cardinals in 1944 and later equalled
The official fielding averages re- by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1952.

Duffy Nixes Ags, ‘Loves MS 17 ’
By GARY ROLLINS
Duffy Daugherty, w’ho has been
courted most fervently in the past
few days by Texas A&M officials
as the prospective successor to
Coach Paul Bryant, passed up the
offer of athletic director - head
coach yesterday, stating “My
heart belongs to Michigan State
Univei'sity.”
With his refusal, the Aggies re
main “coachless,” but the Athletic
Council will now refer to their
“select list” of prospective coaches
and attempt to set up possible in-
texwiew dates with them.
Although there has not been an
official announcement, some of the
names still rumored in top conten
tion are UCLA’s Red Sanders,
Mississippi State’s Wade Walker,
Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd, and
Arizona (Tempe State) Univer
sity’s Dan Devine.
Dodd is presently in Houston,
fulfilling a speaking engagement,
and he will no doubt be contacted,
in the same manner as Duffy
Daugherty.

Powerhouse Wake Forest cap
italized on Aggie rniscues and
shooting inaccuracy to coast to a
68-46 victory over the Cadets in
Winston-Salem, N. C. last night.
The Deacons played a defensive-
type basketball game, expecting
the same sharpshooting the Fann
ers displayed Monday night in their
contest with Memphis State. They ,
took the lead after two minutes,
and never relinquished it.
The Aggies were bothered by
Wake Forest’s zone and were un- *
able to hit from outside the free
throw circle. Neil Swisher, junior
guard from Victoria led the scor
ing, bucketing 15.
Wake Forest led at the halftime,
34-28, and Bobby Rogers’ cagers
were unable to score a field goal
until 10 minutes deep in the second
half. By that time, the mighty
Deacons had increased the margin
to 44-29.
In the final five minutes of the
contest, the Aggies went into a full
court press, but some accurate
shooting of Olin Broadway and
Dave Rudd brought the Deacon of-^
fense through, never allowing the
scoring pace to lag. The two Wake
Forest players were especially ef
fective in shooting from the side-
court. Charley Forte, Deacon guard
punished the Cadets from the free
throw line, sinking eight of eight
charity attempts in the final fiva
minutes of play.
Carr was high scorer in th«
game with 20 points and Budd, also
of the Deasons was second with 18.
Swisher’s 15 was third.
The Aggies, with a 1-2 record
face equally powerful University of
Richmond in Richmond, Va. to
night.
Saturday afternoon, they visit
Columbus, Ohio to help the Buck
eyes open their new coliseum be-*
fore a regional television audience.
