Civilians Want Honor Code
Indications come from Civilian leaders they will at
tempt to contact Corps leaders in efforts to become a part
of an honor code.
It was learned that contacts had been made last year
with Civilian leaders but this year’s leaders had not been
contacted.
At Civilian Student Council meeting last Thursday
night, the agenda included an explanation of the proposed
code to the council.
So, it seems Civilian leaders are interested in the code
and want to become a part of it.
It-also seems from reactions that those Corps seniors
who don’t care whether Civilians are included in the code
are in the minority. One sure way to find out if they
are is by their reactions to Civilian attempts to become a
part of the code.
Theron McLaren, senior class president, indicated last
night he would welcome any attempts by Civilians to be
come part of the code.
Both groups should now strive with all their .power
to get together on the honor code and formulate an ac-*
ceptable plan on a school-wide basis similar to the present
plan.
Once again it has been that old story of misunder
standing between the two groups which has caused the
Corps to go ahead with their honor code without consulting
the Civilians.
With joint meetings, understanding can be developed
and a good code for all A&M students can be formulated.

5-Corps Honor Code
Board of Review Outlined
(Editor’s Note: This is the
fifth in a series of articles giv
ing proponents’ interpretation
of the Corps Honor Code.)
The Board of Review
Each battalion or group will
have a Board of Review consist
ing of one senior from each com
pany or squadron within the bat
talion or group plus one represen
tative from each of the other
three classes in the battalion or
group.
These men will be elected with
in each battalion or group by
members of their respective
classes. All members except the
fourth classmen will be elected
at such a time as designated by
the chairman of the Honor Coun
cil and until that time, fourth
classmen will not be held strictly
accountable for principles of the
code.
The fourth classmen will be
elected in December on a specific
date set by the chairman of the
Honor Council. These men are
directly responsible for the oper
ation of the Honor Code. The
Board of Review’s function is to
review all cases pertaining to hon
or violations and to determine
whether or not a true honor vio
lation is involved.
When a person violates the
code, he must be given an oppor
tunity to turn himself in. If 24
hours following the violation he
has not turned himself in, the
honor violation must be reported
to the cadet’s unit commander.

the honor violation to the chair
man of the battalion or group
Board of Review. The Board of
Review will call a meeting of the
board to review the case to deter

interview of those persons direct
ly involved. The purpose of the
board is not to determine the in
nocence or guilt. Its basic pur
pose is to aid the Honor Council
in the protection of the principles
of honor. If it is the opinion
(chairman does not vote) of the
board that an honor violation was
not involved, the chairman will
send a report of the proceedings
to the chairman of the Honor
