Palfon,Weid§on Join A&M Staff As Chemists Dr. Robert H. Patton and Dr. Hans Weidman have joined the De partment of Chemistry at Texas A. and M. A native of Florida, Dr. Patton received B.S. and M,S degrees from the University of Miami and in 1955 received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Florida. Among his many jobs, he was employed as a research chemist for the Ford Motor Company. Dr. Weidman comes to A- and M. from the Univei'sity of Mainz in Mainz, Germany, where he received the doctor's degree in 1956. He has done significant research on tropaine alkaloids and OP the isotopic labeling of orgapip com pounds, and has had a number of published articles in these fields. At A. and M., Dr. Weidman will work with Dr. H. K. Zimmerman, Department of Chemistry, on the chemistry of amino sugars. Author of five published articles in leading technical journals, Dr. Patton centers his research inter ests around organic flourine chem istry and low temperature catalytic f lourination. Gillespie, who is currently work ing for the Visual Aids Dept, of the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, was one of the two sent to Africa to take slides and movies to be used with the foreign series of books of Africa for the Southern Bap tist Convention this fall.
