A&M Consolidated’s Tigers will
invade Madisonville tonight at 8,
to battle the Mustangs trying to
improve their record after losing
26-14 to Cleveland last week.
Led by 180-pound fullback
Snooky Manning, the Mustangs
topped Navasota, in CHS’s district,
19-2.
Consolidated may have a psy
chological advantage, however, for
they have won the last four games
with the Mustangs. But Madison
ville will be trying hard to break
the jinx.
In last Friday’s tilt, quarterback
Edgar Feldman was the leading
ball carrier for the Bcngals, pick
ing up 71 yards in 15 tries. Also
high on the list were Billy
Kavanaugh, bruising 170 - pound
fullback, with 61 yards on 13 car
ries and halfback Alton Arnold,
who got 36 yards on eight tries.
The first half of the ball game
was all Cleveland, as the Indians
scored three times to hold a 20-0
lead at half time.
ALMOST HOMERS
ORANGE, Calif., CP>-“No pigeons,
alas,” said Richard Wilson. “I have
pigeons, alas,” murmured D. B.
Cromwell, a neighbor. Wilson told
police he forgot to lock his pigeon
cages and 25 of them flew away.
Cromwell called police to say there
were 25 pigeons on his roof. “Al
most,” said Wilson, when asked Jf
his pigeons were homing.
However the Tigers came back
in the third quarter, when Edgar
Feldman crossed the coveted stripe
twice and booted the two extra
points to put CHS back into the
ball game.
Early in the fourth period the
Tigers owmed the oval within the
Indian 30-yard line, but twice
Cleveland’s defense rose and stop
ped the Tiger drives cold.
With seconds remaining in the
game, Cleveland added an insur
ance tally to ice the game, 26-14.
Starting line-up for this Friday’s
fracas will be: Kirby Jackson,
left end; Pete Rodriguez, left
tackle; Bennie Jackson, left guard;
Steadman Davis, center; David
“Malicious” McNeely, right guard,
Lyndon Harper, right tackle and
Don Avera, right end.
In the backfield will be Edgar
Feldman, quarterback, Dee Smith
or Johnny Martinez, left half, Alton
Arnold, right half and Billy
Kavanaugh at fullback.
Wayne Thompson, a 160-pound
senior end, may see action Friday
along with Mike Walton and John
Wayne Todd.
