The boys from Consolida ted High School are piloted this year by Dick Gardemal, who is most remembered by local fans for his fine job of quarterbacking the Aggies to a 22-21 victory over Texas University in 1951. This year’s Tiger crew is ex pected to be much stronger than its 1956 counter-part. Last year the Bengals won only one, while losing nine, one of which was at the hands of Cleveland, 33-13. Although the Tigers are not in mid-season form as yet, the ex- Aggie grid star stated his charges will be in fine enough shape to give Cleveland a tough time Fri day night. Cleveland, on the other hand, is a very able foe, with a large num ber of its 1956 lettermen return ing. The Indians’ starting for ward wall averages almost 165 pounds per man, as compared to 160 per man for Consolidated. Cleveland also has the edge in the starting backfield, with a 160 pound average, while the Tigers post a 155 pound average. Gardemal said the two main weaknesses of the 1957 team are the lack of overall team speed and. the absence of depth but that these are compensated by the en thusiasm and true desire that the boys show on the gridiron. The probable starting lineup for the Friday night fracas will be as follows: Kirby Jackson, 150-pound junior, at left end; Mike Walton, 190-pound senior, or Pete Rodri guez, 160-pound junior, at left tackle; Bennie Jackson, 155-pound sophomore, at left guard; Stead man Davis, 160-pound senior co captain, at center; David McNeely, 165-pound senior, at right guard; Lyndon Harper, 160-pound senior, at right tackle and Don Avera, a 150-pound junior, at right end. In the backfield Gardemal will have Edgar Feldman, veteran 153- pound junior quarterback; Dee Smith, promising 145-pound soph omore left half; Alton Arnold, ver satile 150-pound senior right half back; and ferocious 165-pound Billy Kavanaugh, a senior, at full back. Also speedy Johnny Martinez a 135-pound senior, may see consid- ei’able action at one of the half back posts, as will John Wayne Todd, 165-pound junior, on de fense. In weeks to come, the Tigers will be pitted against some of the top AA schools in the state, as they meet Rockdale there on Sep tember 20 and when they tackle Giddings there on October four.
