Penberthy, head of student activities, discontinued recognizing the Boxing Club as an approved student activity. Penberthy gave a number of reasons for his decision to end a sport that fought for its existence three years ago and had continued success. All of them are inadequate! Penberthy says that: 1. the primary objective of box ing is to render ones opponent unconscious; 2. boxing is not an activity which students can be encouraged to continue or which we can encourage students to work toward as a profession; 3. very few colleges in this area sponsor a boxing club or team; 4. we do not have proper facilities or suffi cient supervision and contin ual danger of injury exists; and 5. the activity is attrac ting individuals who ai’e not stu dents of the college.
