Short stop Lupe Fraga stands third in the conference at the plate with five hits in 12 at bats for a .417 mark. Behind him are soph catcher Gary Harrington (.333) and in fielder Wayne Balke (.333). Sophomore righthander Don nie Hullum, who was reported out for at least two weeks with an injured elbow, has responded to treatment and will be available for duty against SMU. Hullum sup posedly had a bone chip on his left elbow, but after further investigation, it was diagnosed as torn cartilage. The Aggies find themselves in fourth position defensively with a .952 fielding percentage, but their errors seem to be more on the mental, rather than physical, side. A&M Consolidated athletes journey to Houston for the Region 5-A spring sports tournament Friday and Saturday with tennis, golf and track being represented. For the first time in Tiger history, the tennis team will have entries in all the senior divisions* after the net team swept al the first places in the district meet. The tennis tourney will be held on the University of Houston courts Representing the Tigers in boy’s singles will be Don Ave- ra; in boy’s doubles, Jerry Mills and Maurice Olian; in girl’s isngles, Susan Dowell, daughter of A&M College’s varsity tennis coach W. M. Dowell and in Gills’ doubles, Betty Mead and Helen Holmes. Miss Mead and Margaret Manthei won the district doubles, but Miss Holmes will play in the regional tourney. The district chompion golf four some will be composed of Jerry Holland, who is the district med alist with a 77; Kirby Jackson, runner-up to the medalist with 85; Larry Leighton and Johnny Bar ger. Alex Rush will be an alter nate for the squad. The golf playoff will be played over a 36-hole course at Memorial Park in Houston Friday. Donald Tax, Donald Patton and John Wayne Todd are the only Tiger entries in track. The track meet is to be held in Public School Stadium in Houston. Tax won the high hurdles in the district meet and placed second in the lows and broad jump. He jumped 20-2 feet. Patton finished second in the shot and discus, put ting the shot 39 feet and spinning the discus 106-2 feet. Todd captured the half-mile with the winning district time of two minutes, 13 seconds. The Tiger baseball team has scheduled a practice game with the A&M Fish Friday afternoon. The Tigers boast a season record of 6-3 and stand 3-0 in district play. A&M Golfers Meet Baylor In Battle for SWC Lead A&M meets Baylor’s Bears, the major obstacle between them and the inside track to the Southwest Conference golf championship, in a meet scheduled for Saturday on the A&M course. Coach Joe Fagan will probably start a foursome of Bobby Nichols, Jerry Durbin, Marcelino Moreno and Binky Michella against the conference leading Bears. Last Tuesday Baylor thrashed Texas 5% to % in a dual meet in Austin with the Bear’s Ronnie Honeycut firing a two-under par 68. Baylor opened its season with a 414 to 114 win over SMU and has a record of 10-2 in con ference. Bobby Nichols, A&M’s number one performer and last year’s SWC medalist, won the Bay City Open Tourney with a six-under par 66 over the weekend. Other starters for the Bears are Jerry Coats who had a 69 against Texas, Don White with 67 and Don Harmon with a 70.
