CS Little League
Registration Sat.
Saturday between 10 and 12 a.m.
is the last time for participants to
register for the 1957 edition of
the College Station Little League.
All boys who did not play last
season must bring their birth cer
tificates and each potential little
leaguer must be accompanied by
one parent.
At 1 p.m. Saturday all little
leaguers and their fathers will
meet at the park to get it in shape
for the coming season.
A&M Cinder Men Try
SMU, Rice in Dallas
After a two-week layoff, A&M’s
thinlyclads journey to Dallas to
morrow to dual with SMU and
Rice as both varsities and frosh
get together.
The Aggies were idle last week
end due to the ban on all NCAA
meets and could not participate in
the Texas Relays.
In the Owls and Mustangs the
Cadets find their two top rivals
for the Southwest Conference run
ner-up position. Talent-heavy Tex
as has long been spotted as the
class of the league.

LO UPOT’S
This will be the first meeting
between A&M and the Ponies in
1957, but the Aggies have twice
taken the measure of the Owls
and are in the midst of a three-
meet winning streak. The last team
of Coach Frank G. (Colonel Andy)
Anderson, after a dismal start,
has downed Rice in a dual affair,
the Owls and LSU in a triangular
and tied the University of Hous
ton in their last outing.
The A&M Fish are 1-1 on the
season, having lost to the Slimes
but beating the Houston Kittens.
This will be their last meet until
the SWC get-together in Austin
May 10-11.
The Maroon will counter the run
ning of Rice and SMU with the
league’s top field men. Expected
to carry much of the A&M load
are weigh tmen Herman Johnson
in the shot put and discus, Lee
Minneapolis basketball coach
Ozzie Cowles regards Ron John
son, a O-foot-e 1 /^ freshman, as one
of the coming stars in college bas
ketball.
Newman, discus, and Fred Hart
man, javelin, while pole vaulters
Winton Thomas and James Clark
should continue their monopoly
with the long sticks. Thomas is
undefeated this season and has
recorded a 13-10 leap.
Points in running events should
come from quartermilers Ed Bussa,
Johnny Roberts, Robert McKnight
and Andy Erisman, who will team
up for the mile relay, and distance
men Paul Harrington and Fidel
Rul.
Fritzie Connally, SWC high-
jump champ in 1955, will face his
toughest opposition of the year in
SMU’s Don Stewart, who leaped
6-8 3/8 last Saturday at Austin
and holds the nation’s freshman
record of 6-10%.
The Owls’ best bets for firsts
will be defending conference
champs Roy Thompson, in the 220-
yard low hurdles, and Ed Keasler,
in the javelin. Wes Hight, in the
120-yard highs, and Max Royalty,
in the 880, will be probable favor
ites.
