Saturday. By copping this series against the favored Longhorns, the Aggies can keep alive a string of victories at the expense of the Steers that has progressed through football, basketball and swimming seasons. Co-captain Dick Munday, big righthander from Bryan, is likely i ATTENTION Intra-Mural Softball Teagues! We have different color ed Baseball Caps to suit your needs. Student Co-op to be the opening day choice on the mound for the Aggies, to face either Harry Taylor or Howard Reed, the probable starters for Texas. Both are righthanders. Along with Baylor and SMU, Texas is considered as a strong title contender by sportswriters around the state. The Longhorns return eight let- termen from a squad that won five and lost 15 last year, managing only a 3-11 conference record. Last year in the two game series played in Austin, the Aggies split with the Steers, losing the first game, 5-4, and winning the second by the identical score. A third game is scheduled this year in Austin on May 14. The Aggies showed promise, though losing to the Columbia, S. C., Gems 6-4 Tuesday, rapping out seven base hits, including Mun- day’s double. Hitting, a question mark of this year’s Aggie team and a year ago, too, has been good enough to win games, but a loose infield has been the sore spot on the club. Cadet pitching rests in the capable hands of righthanders Munday, Donnie Hujlum and Paul Lang and southpaw hurlers Toby Newton and Bo Paradowski. Mound strength is the bright spot of the Aggie nine, with Newton rated a fine All-SWC prospect. The outfield has shaped up well defensively and Cliff Tuttle, James Smotherman and Dickie Thomas appear to hold the edge for now with Behn Hubbard, a two-year letterman, ready to step in the moment one lets up. Gary Herrington, a good-hitting catcher with a strong arm, ap pears to have that position sewed up. The infield appears to be fairly settled with Wendell Reed at first, moving in from the outfield where he played as a freshman; Doug Mullins, a hustling second baseman, moved from the overstocked pitching staff; Lupe Fraga at shortstop and Lyle “Hoot” Gibson at third base. Munday, along with righthanded pitcher Wayne Schaper, may see action at first.. Joe Worden and Wayne Balke have looked good at short and may share duty with Fraga at that position.
