Texas Tech, 60-11
Warming up for their Southwest Conference title defenst
Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Houston, Coach Art Adam
son’s Aggie swimmers mauled Texas Tech, 60-11, in Downs
Natatorium Friday night.
Scheduled for Saturday, the Red Raiders showed up 2
day early, so the meet came off at night. A&M’s Fish, whc
had downed Houston’s Lamar High, 45-32, Friday afternoon
went back into the water to sweep all four events with a 28-S
victory over the Tech frosh.
Only Tech’s Bob Shackleford broke the Aggie monopoly
on firsts, winning the 200-yard backstroke with Joe Steer
and Jimmy Dye right on his heels. A&M captured seven o:
he eight events.

Monday for 1st Time

Grab your gloves, sharpen your spikes, and loosen up
your “soupbones”, for on Monday, March 18, umpires arbi
trating baseball games in four Bryan ball parks will bark
“Play Ball”, and Corps League baseball will be officially
touched-off for the first in the history of A&M!
Though attempts to start such competitive programs
among Corps units have been made in the past, none have
ever succeeded. This year,

ual medley against the Redskins
then swam to a first in the 100
yard butterfly against Tech.
Besides winning seven of eigh
firsts, the Aggie varsity swept tb
second-place points.

Two leagues have been formed,
one composed of Air Force groups

battalions. Each league will have
seven teams, with each team sched
uled to play 21 games.

Competition will be kicked-off on
March 18 when four scheduled
games will be played. During the
season games will be played either
in the evening- or at night on Tues
days and Fridays, with make-up
to be played on Mondays.
The regular season will end on
May 14, and a ‘‘Little World Series’
or a baseball “12th Man Bowl” will
climax the program on May 16.
This contest will probably feature
a battle between the winner of each
league.

The North Carolina Tar Heels,
unbeaten in 27 games, Monday
broke the two-year hold of the
San Francisco Dons by finishing in
first place by an overwhelming
margin in the final Associated
Press college basketball poll of the
1956-1957 campaign.
The Tar Heels, winners of the
Atlantic Coast Conference tourna
ment last week, were given the No.
1 distinction by 55 of the 76 sports
writers and broadcasters who par
ticipated in the final vote.

for first place, nine for second,
etc., North Carolina received 725
points. Kansas was second with
602 points followed by Kentucky
with 479, Southern Methodist with
