DONE EVERY DATE FOR THE LAST 17 YEARS rr By A1 Capp By A1 Capp World Prayer Day Set College Station will be among more than 20,000 communities in 142 nations of the world to ob serve World Day of Prayer Fri day, an observance begun 70 years ago by a small group of American women. At services circling the earth for more than 24 hours, people of all ages and races will pray, in more than a thousand languages and dialects, for understanding among all nations. The local observance, to be sponsored by the College Station Council of Church Women, is set for 9:50 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. All women in Bryan and Col lege Station are invited to attend the service, the theme for which is taken from Romans 8:35, “Who Shall Separate Us.” Hungarian Writes Service In keeping with its custom of inviting one or more women from a given country to write the serv ice, the National World Day of Prayer Committee of United Church Women this year selected Mrs. Serena Vassody, formerly of Hungary. Mrs. Vassody has based the service upon her experiences behind the Iron Curtain. Women participating in the lo cal program will include the Mes dames William Parker, Norman Anderson, Melvin Schroeder, Hen ry Hadley and Benjamin Evans. Special music for the ceremony will be furnished by the Harmony Singers, directed by Mrs. Grace Krug. The church nursery will be open. Program Planners The service is being arranged by the local World Day of Prayer committee, under the chairmanship of Mrs. Benjamin H. Evans, as sisted by the president of the Col lege Station Council of Church Women, Mrs. I. M. Atkins, and other council officers. The offering received at the service will be divided between pro jects of the Division of Foreign Missions and the Division of Home Missions of the National Council of Churches. Mayor Ernest Langford has is sued a proclamation calling for ob servance of the special day. A&M President D. W. Williams is also cooperating by requesting students, faculty and administra tors of the college to pause at 10 a.m. Friday for a moment of silent prayer. Whistle To Mark Period The minute of silent prayer will begin when the whistle stops and will end when the whistle blows again at 10:01. The memorandum issued by President Williams states that members of classes meeting at that time he asked to stand with heads bowed during the quiet per iod. Through the cooperation of Superintendent L. S. Richardson, A&M Consolidated Schools will also join in the city-wide observ ance. CATERING for “2^Tp ECIA L OCCASIONS Leave the Details to me.
