A&M Weightlifters in First Meet
A&M’s weightlifters try the
South Texas Odd Lift Contest in
their first competition as a team
this year at 6:30 p.m. Saturday
in Houston.
The contest is in conjunction
with the Mr. South Texas contest.
Four lifts make up the meet—the
bench press, the knee-bend, the re
verse curl and the dealift. Only
one trophy, for first place, will be
given in each of the five divisions.
Winners will be determined by to

The A&M baseball team greeted
clear skies and warmer weather
with another intrasquad game, con
tinuing spring training prior to
opening the season with Houston’s
Cougars at 2 p. m. Saturday on
Kyle Field.
Divided into two squads, a team
composed of probable starters eas-

from Baytown is expected to bolster the Aggie pitching
staff. Hullum had the lowest earned run average among
freshman pitchers at 2.8, gave up 48 hits and struck out 54
in 50 and 2/3 innings last season.
Texas JC Cage Meet
Opens Here Monday
The annual Texas Junior College
Athletic Conference championship
cage tournament gets under way
Monday with eight teams vying
for the title.
Four zones will send their top
two teams into A&M’s White Coli
seum to battle for Texas’ largest
junior college crown. Phillips JC
of Borger meets Corsicana’s Na
varro in the opening round at 2:15
p. m. Monday with South Texas
battling Paris at 4.
Decatur Baptist takes on Clar
endon in the single-elimination
play at 7 and the tourney favorite,
Lon Morris, tries San Antonio at
8:45.
The afternoon’s winners get to
gether at 9 a.m. Tuesday with the
winners of the night action meet
ing at 10:45. The losers of the
second round trade baskets at 7
p.m. for third place with the title
game going at 8:45.

The Aggie Boxing Club will
meet tonight at 7:30 in the little
gym to elect captains for next
year.

Unable to Trace
Gambling Hints
ST. LOUIS, (IP)—The Mis
souri Valley Conference has
been unable to trace rumors
linking one of its basketball
officials with gambling inter
ests but is calling a committee
meeting to pursue an investigation,
the conference president said Wed
nesday.
“We have found no truth to any
of the rumors,” said the Rev.
Charles L. Sanderson, S.J., of St.
Louis University, the conference
president. “It seems impossible to
pin down the rumors. Nothing
concrete has developed.”
Father Sanderson disclosed the
conference is calling a meeting in
St. Louis of its officials committee
to conduct a full investigation and
is awaiting replies from the mem
bers before setting a date.
