\ The Battalion College Station (Brazos County), Texas PAGE 6 Thursday, January 17, 1957 ctmi ly. ^^cu/orited By CECILY BROWNSTONE Associated Press Food Editor BUTTERSCOTCH BISCUITS Baking- powder version of popular sticky buns. 2 cups sifted flour % cup (about) milk 3.teaspoons baking powder 1/3 cup butter or margarine % teaspoon salt % cup firmly packed 14 cup shortening dai-k brown sugar 1 cup sliced Brazil nuts Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening until fine. Stir in just enough of the milk to make a firm dough. Turn out on lightly floured board or prepared pastry cloth; knead with floured fingers about % minute. Roll dough into rectangle about 8 by 12 inches. Cream butter and sugar; spread over dough. Roll lengthwise as tightly as possible; cut into 24 one-half inch crosswise pieces. Place biscuits, cut side down, in 24 muffin wells—each about 2 inches across top. Press nuts into sugar mixture on top of biscuits. Bake in hot (400 degrees) oven about 20 minutes. Remove from pans at once; if any nuts fall off, stick back on sticky bottoms of biscuits. Serve hot or cold, sticky sides up. Makes 24 biscuits. SKILLET SAUERKRAUT AND FRANKS 3 tablespoons butter or 1 can (1 pound) sauerkraupt margarine (drained) % cup finely diced onion % cup light brown sugar 3 frankfurters (cut into M.-inch rounds) \ Melt butter in 9 or 10-inch skillet over low heat; add onion and frankfurters. Cook until lightly browned, stirring often. Mix lightly drained sauerkraut with brown sugar; add to skillet. Mix well and reheat slowly, covered, for about 15 minutes. Makes 3 servings.
