Four Aggies Attend
National Convention
Ray Noble, Sid King, Robert
Glazener, and B. M. Gallaway, of
the civil engineering department,
attended the 51st national con
vention of Tau Beta Pi, a scholastic
honor society for engineers, held
at Kansas university, Lawrence,
Kansas, Oct. 10-13.
A proposal to admit women to
membership in Tau Beta Pi was
offei’ed. The national meeting ac
cepted the proposal for the third
time in recent years, although its
action is subject to ratification by
student members of the Associa
tion’s 99 chapters.
A major event of the convention
was the initiation and banquet.
Herbert Hoover Jr., Under-Secre
tary of State of the United States,
delivered an address on “The
Challenge of Engineering”, with
special reference to world affairs.
The 1957 national meeting will
be held at Wisconsin University and
Marquette University.
Tau Beta Pi is u, national society
for engineers founded in 1885. It
has 99 undergraduate chapters in
U. S. engineering colleges, of which
only three were unrepresented at
the 1956 convention. Over 88,000
initiated members constitute the
Association.
Students are elected to member
ship by chapters from the top 20
per cent (scholastically) of their
engineering classes on the basis of
character and service to their col
leges.
