All intramural sports managers
should make special note of the
change in their meeting time with
Barney Welsh. This meeting is of
special concern to all, for it is here
that Barney will lay out this se

The meeting, originally scheduled
for Thursday, has been changed to
Wednesday, at 5 p. m. room 202
in the YMCA.
The first sport planned for this
season is the intramural swimming
on October the first, second, and
third. The preliminaries for swim
ming will be on Monday the eighth,
and the diving on Tuesday the
ninth. Wednesday the 10th we will
have the finals in both events.

With six players on the injured
list and another only able to take
a minimum of contact, Coach Paul
(Bear) Bryant’s Aggies took it
easy Monday in preparation for the
northern invasion of Villanova’s
tremendous Wildcats Saturday.
Plagued by .injures in the last
week, Bryant’s hope for his first
opening-game victory as coach of
the Aggies gets dimmer by the day.
“W T e didn’t do much today,”
commented the head coach.
“We’re not going to scrimmage
any this week—we’re too in
terested in getting well.”
The Cadets limited their Monday
practice to work on plays by the
backs, pass defense and kicking.
NEW YORK—Ted Williams has
a .352 batting average with 364
times at bat. Mickey Mantle is at
.350. Each has 10 games left to
play.
Williams, a four-time batting
champ, has come on strong in the
past couple of weeks. Last week
alone he gained 8 points, collecting
11 hits in 24 trips. Mantle, mean
while, fell 5 points with 6-for-25
while dropping from the top spot
Friday night for the first time
this season.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.—George Walker, Arkansas’ in
jured quarterback, worked out in pads for the first time in
more than a week.
It appeared unlikely, however, that he would see action
against Hardin Simmons in the Razorbacks’ opening game
here Saturday.
Walker, a senior and top ohoice for quarterback, suffered
a knee injury in a dress rehearsal scrimmage Sept. 8.
Four position changes were made, none of them on the
first string. Mitchell moved Jack Snodgrass from center to
right guard, Bill Gilbow from right guard to left guard, John
Boles from left guard to left tackle, and Benny Berry from
left halfback to right halfback.

NEW YORK—Home runs by Billy Bruton, Jack Dittmer
and Ed Mathews brought Milwaukee’s second-place Braves
a 4-1 nightcap victory last night against New York after
southpaw Johnny Antonelli, hitting a two-run homer and
giving just six hits, had gained a 7-2 Giants’ victory in the
first game of a twi-night doubleheader.

LONDON—The case of the missing Russian discus
thrower, almost forgotten in the Suez crisis, zoomed back
into the news Monday night.
High government officials were reported to be reviewing
the case of Nina Ponomareva, who is believed still in London.
An informed source intimated that the case against Nina,
who skipped bail after being charged with stealing five cheap
hats from a London store, may be dropped. Nina is believed
to still be enjoying the diplomatic sanctuary of the Soviet
Embassy.
The heralded freshman quarter
back; Charles Milstead, ran from
the Wildcat T formation and did
the throwing, but was hampered
in his accuracy by the inadequacy
of his forward wall. The team
worked on punts, extra points and
field goals, with Ed Dudley, Roddy
Osborne, Loyd Taylor and Bobby
Conrad doing the toeing.
Hoping to parallel A&M’s come
back of 1955, Yillanova sends a
ponderous team after its third con
secutive win over the Cadets. The
Aggies took the series opener,
33-7, in 1939, but the Wildcats have
won the other two, 34-14 in 1948,
and 35-0 in 1949.
BOOSTING A 20-pound-per-man
edge in weight in the line, Yillanova
moves into Kyle Field with a for
ward wall averaging 215 pounds,
including a pair of 230 - pound
tackles, publicized Don Luzzi and
Ron Cherubini.
Although they won but one of
10 games in 1955, the Wildcats re
turn 24 lettermen and a group of
sophomores that were undefeated
as freshmen and tabled the finest
frosh team in Yillanova history.
At every position the Wildcats
have a veteran supported by a
bright sophomore. 4
Five lettermen are back at the
halfbacks with Davey Parr, John
Bauer, the team’s top ground gain
er in 1955, and Rick Sapienza, their
fastest back, providing breakaway
threat. Rollie West, 215 pound
soph holds down fullback in front
of two lettermen.
AT QUARTERBACK the Wild
cats hope Bill. Magee, who had a
fine spring and has improved as a
passer, and Jim Grazione,-6-2, 190,
pound soph who led the Yillanova
freshmen to new scoring records
last season, will provide adequate
ball handling.
