It should cover the cost of rendering the service—wages and materials—plus a small profit. Other people need a profit to stay in business and so do we. Ours does a double job. It pays a reasonable return to those whose money is already invested in the telephone company and it thereby attracts new investment money to pay for the improvements and expansion our customers continually want. The profit we need is small... but it is vitally important to every user of the telephone. CS Swimmers Take Third In AAU Meet College Station swimmers, led by John Harrington, who received the Little Kneip Me morial Award, took third place in the Texas AAU Swimming and Diving' Championship Meet held in San Antonio during the past weekend. Competing against some of the top swimmers in the state, the local tankers were beaten out of the run ner-up spot by the Dads Club of Houston by just three points. San Antonio won the meet. Twice named to the All-American swimming Team, Harrington, a senior at A&M Consolidated, was the winner of the Kneip award for “sportsmanship, team work, dili gence, cooperation, and perform ance.” In individual events, he captured second in the 110 yard backstroke and 440 yard medley and took a third place in the 220 yard backstroke. The men’s 440 yard medley relay team o f Harrington, Tetsuo Okamoto, Jerry Mount, and Jim Covan placed second and the same group took third in the freestyle relay. In the 880 yard freestyle, Okamoto came in first. He captured second in the 440 yard freestyle; and third in the 440 yard individual medley. In the 110 yard fi'eestyle, Mount took third and he finished sixth in the 110 yard butterfly. Gail Schlesselman finished third in the 220 yard breast stroke, as her two-year-old record in that event was broken. She also came in third in the 110 yard butterfly and fifth in the 440 yard individual medley. Two second places were accoun ted for by Martha Shawn, as she took the runner-up spot in the 220 yard baskstroke and in the 110 yard backstroke. Ann Cleland captured fifth in the 220 yard breast stroke. Judy Litton took a seventh place in the 440 yard freestyle. The relay team of Ann, Gail, Martha, and Judy took third in the 440 yard medley relay. The same quartet with one exception, Ann Schlesselman instead of Ann Cle land, finished sixth in the 440 yard freestyle relay. Two other local swimmers, com peting unattached, also won some points although they did not count toward the College Station team total. Orlando Cossani and his wife Eileen took a second, two thirds, and a fifth place in their events. Five of Coach Art Adamson’s tankers, John, Gail, Judy, Martha and Ann Cleland competed in the Southern US Junior Olympics in Houston last week. Outstanding showings were turned in by John who won first in the 100 meter baskstroke, and Gail, who set a new record in the prelims of the 100 meter butterfly although com ing in second in the finals.
